Guest thepinkfairy
My dance teacher recently told us that rising on one foot to demi pointe repeatedly and then on the other is good for strengthening our calves. But I can't remember what calves are good for? Like working on pointe or what? Im just a little confused/baffled! Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
The calf muscles are the ones that cause the foot to point. They are attached to the heel by the Achilles' tendon, and after you do the relevé, do a nice squishy demi-plié to keep from building the dreaded piano legs. Quote Link to comment
dancer31220
Just curious, Mr. Johnson... What do you mean by "the dreaded piano legs"???? Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Like the rear legs on an upright or spinet piano. Bulgy and stumpy-looking. Quote Link to comment
