Whenever I come home from my Ballet or Jazz class my arches are sore. But only when I walk. It never used to happen and I think its becoming more regular. Also in class its not like were doing any footwork, only just pointing them in exercises. Should I be looking at arch angels or should i see a foot podiatrist? Has anyone used any of these foot supports? Any advice?

thepinkfairy, sorry to hear of your foot pain. I am not sure what an "arch angel" is, however, if you have pain that continues, see a Doctor.

As for "footwork in class" pointing your foot is a lot of work when done correctly. Also jumping and landing requires a lot of strength. Are you rolling in on your feet? Perhaps this should be moved to the health and nutrition forum?

When in doubt rest and ice.

Thanks for your reply vrsfanatic but I wouldn't call my sore arches PAIN. They just feel sore. And when I am using my feet in class, I am not reallly working hard with them or anything but they are pointed correctly (not sickled). My teacher said I don't roll in my feet, so I'm not sure. But thanks again for your reply.

It is good that you have consulted with your teacher. :D Ask your teacher if you may be crunching/clutching your feet instead of standing naturally with your feet firmly placed on the ground. This could also causing soreness.

Excuse me, but lil dancer isabella, I believe that you have not even studied ballet yet, therefore I do not think it is a good idea for you to give advice to dancers. Please leave the advice-giving on the technique forums to the teacher/moderators! Thank you :innocent:

I seem to be having a couple foot problems too... :(

The first one is with my arch. Everyonce in a while I get kind of a sharp pain or a cramp in my arch, while in my pointe shoes. It normally goes away shortly, and it hasn't happened very recently. But I was just wondering what could cause cramps in your arch?

My second question is about the top of my foot. Sometimes when I point (like when I do tendues) there is this kind of rippling pop that seems to be going through my bones or whatever there is on the top of my arch (It's confusing to try and explain the feeling). I asked my teacher and she said maybe it was because I was winging my foot to much. So I tried winging it less but it still happens  . It's not really painful, it's more like discomfort. I'm really not sure what's up with my foot (usually the right one) and what I could be doing wrong.

No idea on the second problem, cheeriodancer, but the arch cramping is usually caused by gripping the toes, over-pointing, or pushing down into the shoes. Cramps can also occur due to lack of potassium and magnesium in the diet, however, if you don't get them anywhere else, then it is probably something you are doing. It could be that the shoes are too small too.

cheeriodancer, I have that exact problem in my right foot (the second problem). I went to a doctor (whatever you call bone doctors, I'm not sure) and he wasn't too concerned. He just said there is something rubbing and that's what's causing it, but apparently he didn't think it was doing any damage, and just told me to come back if I began to feel actual pain. It's only in one foot though, so I don't know why whatever it is that's rubbing wouldn't do the same in both feet. Hope that helps a little, you probably would still want to see a doctor because it might not be the same thing even though it sounds like it.

Thanks, limeymauve. I guess I wasn't going insane :D ! But I haven't really had that problem since I broke my ankle a few months ago :pinch: . I have no idea if it was connected, though.
