DaNcErKeL86
I am preparing for the YAGP ballet competition in January. I was wondering what the proper etiquette is in asking a well known teacher or retired professional dancer from my area to coach me on my variation. One of the teachers I wanted to ask teaches some open classes that I take. Would it be rude to ask her before or after the class if she does private coaching sessions? Any information on this subject would be very helpful! Thanks! Link to comment
Mel Johnson
I would ask her after class, when she will probably have a little more time than before. Link to comment
vrsfanatic
As matter of etiquette, I would have to suggest also that first you speak with the teacher with whom you have been training the most, regarding your desire to be coached for a competition by the teacher you are discussing. If you would like to have an mutually respectable relationship with other teachers it is polite to be open about your intentions. You do not need to discuss the whys, only the what it is you are doing. Link to comment
DaNcErKeL86
I already have talked to my main teacher and told him that I was thinking about asking someone else to help me as well. He thought it was a great idea so I am not worried about that aspect of it. So after class is best? Alrighty! I don't know why I am a little scared to ask, but I guess the worst thing that can happen is for her to say no, right? I can handle that if I have to! Link to comment
Swanilda
Actually, I'm in the same situation as you but a different competition. It's nervewraking because you always feel that if they say no it's because they don't like you or your dancing or whatever! I'm sure it will be fine and she'll be happy to do so-- or if not, have a good reason! Link to comment
