Guest unsoccer-mom
Walnut Hill has a section on their website for college and conservatory placement. It is a very informative and below is a link to a page containing links by major to colleges/conservatories/universities. http://www.walnuthillarts.org/admission/co...rts.html#ballet For any of you with student approaching college age, I think you would find this very helpful. Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 4, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted November 4, 2004 Thank you, un-soccermom. It is a good list, but I noticed there were several of the more recognized dance programs not shown, such as Indiana, U. of South Florida, and SUNY Purchase. Also, under Musical Theatre, there is a fine program at Oklahoma City University. I'm sure there are a lot of others missing too, but those just came to mind as I was looking at the list and tney were not there. Quote Link to comment
Georgia
Why are there so many more choices for Modern dance? Some quality colleges offer Modern only. Quote Link to comment
thedriver
The list has The Juilliard School under Modern Dance not Ballet. Is the Juilliard SI ballet or modern focused? Quote Link to comment
e'smom
Julliard is modern focused. Quote Link to comment
stellapiet
Juilliard is both ballet and modern. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Hi, Stellapiet, and welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers. Let me put it this way, Juilliard HAS both ballet and modern, but since the death of Benjamin Harkarvy, rightly or wrongly, the perception is that now the modern overshadows the ballet training. stellapiet
That's interesting... I had quite the opposite impression. Lawrence Rhodes is from Les grands Ballets Canadiens and I know they have some dancers in SF Ballet and other traditionally ballet companies. I saw a peice at a gala last year that Peter Martins choreographed especially for Juilliard. It was beautifully danced! Quote Link to comment

I'd say with Lawrence Rhodes the ballet should be impressive! Quote Link to comment

Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 30, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 Perhaps they are going to give more emphasis to the ballet, now that they have Mr. Rhodes? In the past, the emphasis has definitely been modern. Quote Link to comment
