Hmn well put it this way ... I used to have a teacher who had been trained by Maggie Black (who trained Gelsey Kirkland) and the closest I have come to finding a class like hers in London is Zina Mamedova at Danceworks (Balderton St, W1). :)

I've had the amazing fortune of taking class several times from a former student of Maggie's here in Los Angeles. His classes are 100% Maggie, all placement and pure technique. It's the hardest class I've ever taken. Not so sure it qualifies as "Balanchine" in style but it is the most worthwhile class you could ever take.

Luckilly this teacher is about to start an open adult class in January. I can't wait. I have never seen anyone teach like her students do.

I Googled it and found this in a directory listing, but I don't know how up to date it is, should be pretty easy to find out from the Urdang:

John Prinz

London NW11 6LT

Tel/Fax: 020 8458 1377 email: jjm.prinz@virgin.net

Mermaid:

Details for the class are still in the works, but it looks like it will be at Dance Arts Academy in Mid-Wilshire on Thursdays at 9:30 AM. I'll try to remember to post when the class starts.

I emailed him, hopefully he will reply  Balanchine technique in London seems to be quite exotic :D

John Prinz certainly has the "Balanchine chops" to teach in the Balanchine style, but whether or not he chooses to do so, only taking the class will tell.

:D The email address does not work. I will have to check it out at Urdang in person as there is no information about their open classes on their website

Having entered NYCB at 15 or 16, Ms. Kirkland was able to work with many teachers of various styles and methodologies, however Ms. Kirkland was trained at SAB as a student, by teachers in that school. To my knowledge Ms. Black was not on the faculty of SAB. There is a difference between working with a dancer of a professional level and actually training a student as a child. It is difficult to find dancers who actually trained at SAB from beginning to end as a student, however, Ms. Kirkland does fit into this catagory.

As for Balanchine Technique in London, perhaps you could contact SAB directly to see if they know of anyone?
