dedancer
does anybody know about abt year round program? do you have to audition or do you have to go to the summer intensive? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 12, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted January 12, 2005 It is an audition only program, and very small and very hard to get into. ABT does not really have a school, they just have this one small program right now. Hopefully, this will lead to a school eventually, like they used to have a long time ago. Quote Link to comment

mapaalge
ooo i thought abt did have a year round school ( The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre). On the ABT website it does say that it only takes 18-20 kids but i was thinking of auditioning. All the info is on the website... this website Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Please remember that the ABT school is just getting under way again. Their former, excellent school folded, then was somewhat resurrected when, during the Baryshnikov administration, the Classical Ballet School was opened, but it only lasted a couple of years. They've been marking time, mostly, with open classes given by Diana Cartier (let me say that Ms. Cartier is nobody's idea of marking time - she's an excellent teacher), but a more comprehensive program is just this year being started, and they have opted to start small. I believe that this is a wise procedure. Quote Link to comment
Guest Dance_Like_This
You can audition or go to the summer program and ask to be observed and considered for the program. Quote Link to comment
balletismyreligion225
Noticing that this thread is three years old, I was wondering if anyone had any new information on the JKO School. I am thinking of auditioning for the 2009-2010 program, but I wanted to learn more about it. Are they as strict with body type as SAB? Quote Link to comment
mirabray
It all under this thread. http://dancers.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=18524 Quote Link to comment

scdancergal1
are you talking about JKO through ABT?! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 2, 2008 Administrators Report Share Posted August 2, 2008 Yes, that is the subject of the thread that is linked above. Quote Link to comment
scdancergal1
My brother attended the program and the program itself is great (he said) but there was no schooling and no housing and no board. So on top of the expenses of the actual program you have to pay for online schooling (cause theres no time for regular school) for rent, food, transportation (unless your walking) and variouse other things and it starts to add up. Now our family isnt one of the richest so if you can afford it from what my brother was describing is a great school! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 2, 2008 Administrators Report Share Posted August 2, 2008 Yes, that is true. The program does not claim to be an academic residency program. It is a very special ballet program, but nothing in NYC is inexpensive. Living there without an income is very difficult, even if you are on scholarship for the training. Quote Link to comment
appleorings
not to be completely pessimistic, but at the ABT-DSI every person that auditioned to get in got rejection letters :/ it's extremely hard to get in even if you're amazing. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 4, 2008 Administrators Report Share Posted August 4, 2008 Thank you for the information, catlover, but this is the YD forum....no parents allowed! Quote Link to comment
