Guest ceetee
Hi all, my daughter has been dancing for 3 years (she's 13) at a local studio. She has the desire to go pro and we decided to look into the Maryland Youth Ballet. We live about 40 minutes away from MYB, opposed to the 10 minute drive to her local studio- and with both of our tight schedules, it would be a hassle to travel there, so before we made a commitment I needed to find out about it. I went to MYB's website and could not find a lot of information. All I know is that it is headed by Hortensia Fonseca and Julie Kent came out of there. Can anyone shed some light on this school for me? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 21, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted January 21, 2005 Hello ceetee, welcome to the Ballet Moms and Dads forum here on Ballet Talk for Dancers! MYB is a very fine school, and they have turned out a lot of good dancers! It is very important to get to a professional school if you have a talented child with her heart set on dance. I would sugges either MYB or WSB, depending on which one you can get to easier. At WSB we have LOTS of students who travel from Baltimore, Annapolis, Frederick, and sometimes even Fredericksburg. Most of our students live in VA and MD. Quote Link to comment
MYBkid
knock knock: The screen name speaks for itself. I have gone to MYB since the age of five! If you would like any information feel free to PM me. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 21, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted January 21, 2005 Rosie, new members do not have PM privileges. They need to be here a couple of weeks and have at least 30 posts. But very nice of you to offer to help! Quote Link to comment

Guest LittleMissChievious
Not really relevant to your daughter....but if you ever get the itch to try ballet for yourself....they have an EXCELLENT adult program! Kylie Quote Link to comment
crzctldt
MYB has also turned out Susan Jaffe. She was so impressed with the training and caring at MYB that she and her partner, Risa Kaplowitz(also a MYB alum), have based their ballet school on their experience at MYB as young girls. I'll second that, and add that they also have stretch and are next door to Joy of Motion, which has all sorts of dance. Quote Link to comment
fouette809
hi, i have recently switched to myb and am in the release time program. i am very impressed with the teaching and class styles. The combinations are very fast and improve one's endurance and strength. They also do Nutcracker and a spring show at a local theatre so i plan on auditioning for them!!! Quote Link to comment
interestedparty
Does Maryland Youth Ballet offer scholarships? Quote Link to comment
koshka
Their written materials that I've seen in the past have certainly referred to scholarships, especially for boys, but I see nothing on their website. You might have to call to find out more. Quote Link to comment
interestedparty
Thank you, I did call them and ask them. They do offer limited scholarships and will work with a family to make the payments doable. Quote Link to comment
Momof3darlings
I'm hoping someone will be able to update on the current "graduates" (if any) in this program and what their plans are for next year. If they have company positions, please let us know if those are trainee, apprentice, corp and then male/female. This information helps others track the true success of the program from year to year. belleballerina
I go to MYB and am in begginner pointe LOVE IT! it is a great program and if you have any questions about MYB ask away.. Also I was wondering if any SI's would accept a begginer pointe student(but at MYB it is very intense, so I wouldnt call it begginner)????????/ Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 10, 2009 Administrators Report Share Posted November 10, 2009 By the time the auditions come around you won't be a total beginner any more. And, the auditioners will know you are relatively new on pointe, and understand that by the summer you will have had a full 9 months. Quote Link to comment
