Sneezing...

I'm not quite sure where to post this but it seems like the right place.

I'd just like to know what you can do if you're about to sneeze onstage? You know, without letting the audience realize you're about to explode. The reason I ask this is because I have a little cold and I'm going onstage tomorrow!

It mostly likely won't happen on stage. Can't explain that, except perhaps you are just too busy dancing and somehow it just goes away. I don't know, but I have never had it happen, nor been on stage with anyone who had it happen.

Actually I have never heard or seen anyone ever sneeze on stage. I was told as a student it does not happen, however now I am more apt to believe anything can happen.

I can imagine that Ms. Leigh or Major Johnson may have some interesting stories. Don't worry...be happy!

It's never happened to me, but once last year the girl at my studio doing Plum sneezed onstage! It was a small sneeze so I'm not sure if the audiance noticed but it ripped her tutu in the back! Her mom had to quickly sew it up before she went back on for finale!

Well, there was a "wrap party" gag that I participated in one time, which we called the "Nose Adagio". What would happen if Aurora were allergic to roses? I don't know what goes on with that, whether the adrenaline rush from performance opens things up, or what.

well if such a thing happens.. biting your tongue works!! I had really bad allergies when I went onstage for my spring performance but I was so into the dancing that I completely forgot about it. But, backstage I was coughing up a storm.

Ha! Nose Adagio! Oh, I like that one. Bravo Major Johnson!

It was quite a production - the girl we had could do most anything that had to do with balance, and she had, and still has, a Carol Burnett face and sense of humor. Things started well enough, but the roses started coming on early, and then things started to fall apart. In one section, she sneezes in one prince's face, and his wig flew off into the wings; then it happens again to the next guy and his hat flies off; next, the turban, and finally the last prince, and his pants fall down.

im not sure if this is very scientific, but saying "Grapes" over and over quietly out loud or in your head seems to prevent oncoming sneezes- i dunno where i got that :D

haha i''ve sneezed onstage before... but it was during the party scene in Nutcracker so it wasnt much of a big deal... :D

I tried the grapes thing and it didn't work. Maybe it only works for select people.

I actually think about this one a lot. I have never sneezed onstage or in class, and I am doing ballet a lot! I think it must be a psycological thing! Because we all know that we don't want to sneeze!

Oh, I've sneezed in class before. And don't worry, my sniffles didn't affect me onstage. I think also it must be all in your head. Now, coughing onstage, I have to say is one of the hardest things to prevent. I practically exploded when I finally got offstage.

Hmm never tried the grapes thing. But, if you hold your nose and say "pickles" 3 times the sneeze goes away. I wouldn't recommend holding you nose onstage though...
