Guest jstephens
Hello, I am looking for a studio. There are several in my area to choose from. I would like to know how to screen these studios. I would like a structured studio that does exams. I would also like a serious studio. I am trying to think of how to ask a studio owner if their studio is a "serious one" without offending anyone. I got some helpful hints from a girl at the dancewear store, but she wouldn't come out and say which one was the best. She showed me the phone book and pointed to three that are "more structured" The dance store is 30 min from where I live. When I told her that I had attended my local school, and that I was thinking of going somewhere else she looked puzzled. She never mentioned which studio she attended. She felt bad giving me the info she did, since all of the local studios support the dancewear store. How do you ask someone if there school is nice or terrible w/o offending them? Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 5, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted March 5, 2005 Jackie, I think I would just visit them. I think you will be able to see the differences. If you haven't had enough training to be sure of that, start with a professional company school and then visit other schools. There are a number of good schools in the Atlanta area, but I don't know where in Georgia you are. Two of the excellent suburban schools are Georgia Youth Ballet and Metropolitan Ballet Theatre. Danzatriz
Hello! I'd recomend you read the "Dolly Dinkle" thread in CrossTalk, it's very informative and you might find some good hints there. Happy studio hunting! Danza Quote Link to comment
Her Royall Highness
Yes, I agree, go visit each one. Ask to observe a few classes and you should get some idea of the caliber of the studio. Don't let anyone simply talk you into their studio; in any owner's eyes, theirs is always the best choice. Quote Link to comment
Guest jstephens
So is there a list of things to avoid, besides a huge trophy case? The reason I ask is because I am looking for a different school than what I previously attended. When I mentioned this, the girl at the dancewear shop was surprised, and she looked like the type that would not attend a dolly dinkle school. The reason, I am looking for a different school is that I felt I wasn't getting enough correction. Of course, I am an adult student; so I guess that is pretty common. I guess what I am trying to say is I don't think I know enough to be able to tell what is a better school. I read the Dolly Dinkle thread, and I read about the "horror recitals." What is a good recital? How does a good teacher correct technique? Jackie Edited March 7, 2005 by jstephens Quote Link to comment
