She has a youth/civic ballet which produces well trained dancers. I don't know if these phone numbers work, I found them on yellowpages.com. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Many thanks Tiffany. I managed to get in a class at ballet Mississippi. Went well. Sweet potato Queens were wild as usual. My group had wonderful outfits, and were quite pleased with themselves. Thousands of women of a certain age with attitude and significant disposal income in one place...away from home, makes for an interesting weekend. TY Liz Quote Link to comment
Tiffany
That's great. I didn't get to the parade this year, but it was fun last year!!! I can't believe how the SPQ have grown into a country-wide phenomenon! I always say well what do you expect, its MS, about our lack of dance companies, lack of people who appreciate dance, in general lack of appreciation for art, dance, culture, etc., BUT we do have the SPQ's!!!! who are well known outside of our state! TemptressToo
Bumping a really old thread since I'm going to Jackson. I have been here in the ballet lacking suburbs of Dothan, AL for a little over a year now. I did spend a semester with the Dothan School of Dance, but without a dedicated adult class, this became too overwhelming. I was dancing with company girls who were blazing fast and very skilled. Nobody talked to the 34 year old in the room. Anyway, I left ballet for a while but am so excited to be heading to Jackson, MS within the month. I've heard good things about the ballet scene and am looking forward to getting back to serious 1.5 hour classes. Quote Link to comment
Tiffany
I called Ballet MS recently to check out their classes (I will be moving close to that area later this year) and they have 3 morning classes & 1 evening class for adults. I hope you were able to find some classes!! http://www.balletms.com/09/Schedule09.html Quote Link to comment
TemptressToo
Yes, I found that as well. Ballet Magnificat also has adult classes, although theirs are only 1 hour long. I much prefer the 1.5 hour class. I'll only be able to make the Tuesday night classes though as I work during the day. Perhaps I'll meet you later this year. Quote Link to comment
TemptressToo
Despite my best efforts, it appears all the Jackson studios are on summer hiatus. Why, oh why do ballet schools close for the summer? It's not like the rest of us get to take three months off from work. (I'm kidding...sort of). Quote Link to comment
