Sissone Ferme

I've never really liked sissone ferme because it's particularly hard for me (imagine...ballet, difficult?). Lately my right sissone ferme has gotten better but going to the front with my left is absolutely atrocious! Any suggestions? I go crimson whenever my teacher says "Okay, now to the left" because I know how laughable it looks. Any tips would be much appreciated!

Hello Cecile, welcome to the Young Dancers' forum here on Ballet Talk for Dancers!

Can you tell me a bit more about what the problem is? Sissonnes are simply jumps from two feet to one, and they can travel to any direction of the body, ending either ouvert or fermé. They land with the extended leg in back, front, or side, and if it is sissonne fermé then the extended leg closes immediately to 5th plié. Is your problem in the beginning of the jump or the landing? Are you jumping up from both feet, moving forward or sideways or backwards, and landing demi plié and then closing to 5th? If you tell me a bit more about where you are having trouble and how the left seems different from the right, it would help me to help you! :P

Sorry about the lack of clarity. The sissones with which I have the most trouble are the ones with the left foot in front going forward to the corner. Though I jump off of both legs, I just can't seem to get the left up in the air very far. I also have trouble fully extending the right leg when it's in back. My teacher says that the muscles there are strong enough, so I don't think it's an issue of strength.

Thanks,

Ceci
