balletbooster
One of our BT moms' son will be dancing with ABT Studio in London (Tango49). As a grad of RBS, he will be having a homecoming of sorts! Quote Link to comment

Dance_Scholar_London
Just a little review of the ABT Studio Comanpy performance last Friday. The young dancers seems all to be very flexible - and I am talking here about the boys! I was surprised to see so many different body types (tall, short, chesty...). I was actually expecting that they would have similar body types. IMO, La Vivandiere was not a good choice to start with. Eric Tamm, the male lead had several wobbles in his adage and his tours to the left seemed to be insecure. The female lead Hee Seo showed very good technical skills (beautiful feet - I was about 2 m close to the stage), however she had a fake smile during the whole variation. I dont think that this piece showed any personality of the dancers. Even worse, the costumes were very badly fitted and one could see how uncomfortable they were. One girl had to adjust her costume twice in order not to show too much decollete! I really enjoyed Variations for Four - the boys could show off their technical skills. Especially the two shorter boys (Alex Wong and Joseph Gatti) had fantastic turning skills. Gatti showcased very powerful turn and excellent control A tall blonde guy almost slipped when he entered the stage which had an overall effect on his performance of this variation as he seemed to be insecure from now on, although he did a beautiful manege before. Tea and temptations was a wonderful narrative and the dancers could show off their acting skills. Especially Hee Seo seemed to be completely transformed in this choreography. I wonder why these skills had not been applied to La Vivandiere. Especially I liked the maids (Isabella Boylston). Great story-line and even better interpretation. Cucurrucucu Paloma was one of my favourites. A contemporary ballet with a lot of body contact and acrobatic balances. Boylston and Wong performed in a flawless manner and seemed to be very comfortable executing floorwork, difficult lifts and balances. It was a lovely evening and the performance built up with every piece! Definitely a must see if you want to spot out young talents I hope they will make it into the company Quote Link to comment
vrsfanatic
Thank you DSL for your comments on ABT Studio Co. in NYC. I was curious about La Vivandiere. It is quite a piece to do well. They are young and need experience to approach this very difficult work. There is a reason not many companies dance it! Keep your eyes open for Isabella Boyston. She is a new addition to Studio Co., as of January 2005. She is a lovely dancer and a real sincere charmer. Quote Link to comment
Dance_Scholar_London
Yeah, she was one of the maids in tea and temptations. If she cant make it as a ballet dancer she will definitely make it at Cirque du Soleil. I loved her acrobatic flexibility. Quote Link to comment
danseurmor
Thanks for the report! In La Vivandiere, Hee Seo's usual partner, Gray Davis was sidelined due to injury and stayed behind in NY. Has anyone seen any reviews in the London papers yet? Quote Link to comment
tango49
I must add that you can see both Isabella and Joseph Gatti at the NYIBC as they will be partners. Isabella is definately a charmer as is Joseph...but ofcourse as some may know I am definately biased! Tango Quote Link to comment
tango49
Hi Danceurmor! I sure hope that Grey is doing well and will be back in N.Y. sometime this month...he's been in our prayers. She is a lovely dancer and a real sincere charmer. Is Hildur Boylston going by the name Isabella now? She and my daughter became bosom buddies back when they were 12 and 13, at the Kirov Academy. I know that Hildur was asked to join the ABT Studio Company in January right after Harid's Nutcracker. Quote Link to comment
danseurmor
Yes that is Hildur. Quote Link to comment
vrsfanatic
Hildur (Isabella, her middle name) was actually invited to join Studio Co. last summer after her SI at ABT NYC. Quote Link to comment
