Other types of Dancing

I have only danced at one studio for my entire life. I am part of a competitive

group but there aren't many people left that are above my level. I don't know

when to drop the other kinds of dance (tap, jazz, lyrical) to just do ballet because

I want to be a ballerina. So are there any signs that it would be safe to drop

everything else to do just ballet? :) Thanks a lot!

I like to tap, jazz and lyrical because it gives me a variety but if I switch to just

ballet then I am going to have to switch to a different studio. And I don't even

know if I have a chance of being a ballerina or not. I'm just not sure what to do

because in September I have to decide what to do and that means looking at a

bunch of different studios. :)

If you're thinking of ballet as a career, then yesterday would be wonderful!

Scorpiodancer, welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers, and the Young Dancers' forum!:)

If you want to be a classical dancer, Mr. Johnson is right on....YESTERDAY! And that means changing studios yesterday, meaning the first possible moment.

Okay well, do you know of any good ballet studios in Michigan?

Thanks so much for helping me see that I can move on to just ballet! :)

And thanks so much for welcoming me to Ballet Talk!

Depends on where you are in Michigan, scorpiodancer. It's a big state, so give us some boundaries here. :)

I live in the area that is near Detroit but not in Detroit. I think that the closest city

is Novi, if you know where that is. Thanks so much for helping me!

Thanks! I'll tell my mom about it sometime so that she can take me there to look around. Do you know if most studios will let you watch their classes before you register for classes?

Yes, most studios will do that. And if I were you, I would do it as soon as possible. The longer you wait for good training the more difficult it will be.

Summer camp??? You are not dancing all summer? If you want to be a dancer, you need to be at a Summer Intensive program, THIS YEAR! Forget camp. Go NOW.

With all due respect, Ms. Leigh, it might not be that easy for her to "forget camp". Her parents most likely put in the deposit already, that's usually thousands of dollars :ermm:
