Guest scorpiodancer0007
I have only danced at one studio for my entire life. I am part of a competitive group but there aren't many people left that are above my level. I don't know when to drop the other kinds of dance (tap, jazz, lyrical) to just do ballet because I want to be a ballerina. So are there any signs that it would be safe to drop everything else to do just ballet? Thanks a lot! Quote Link to comment
Guest afroballet01
I'm not sure what you mean, but just doing ballet is totally fine--especially if you want to be a ballerina. Quote Link to comment
Guest scorpiodancer0007
I like to tap, jazz and lyrical because it gives me a variety but if I switch to just ballet then I am going to have to switch to a different studio. And I don't even know if I have a chance of being a ballerina or not. I'm just not sure what to do because in September I have to decide what to do and that means looking at a bunch of different studios. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
If you're thinking of ballet as a career, then yesterday would be wonderful! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 6, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted April 6, 2005 Scorpiodancer, welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers, and the Young Dancers' forum! If you want to be a classical dancer, Mr. Johnson is right on....YESTERDAY! And that means changing studios yesterday, meaning the first possible moment. Quote Link to comment
Guest scorpiodancer0007
Okay well, do you know of any good ballet studios in Michigan? Thanks so much for helping me see that I can move on to just ballet! And thanks so much for welcoming me to Ballet Talk! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 9, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted April 9, 2005 Depends on where you are in Michigan, scorpiodancer. It's a big state, so give us some boundaries here. Quote Link to comment
Guest scorpiodancer0007
I live in the area that is near Detroit but not in Detroit. I think that the closest city is Novi, if you know where that is. Thanks so much for helping me! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 9, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted April 9, 2005 Michigan Classic Ballet, in Bloomfield Hills. The school connected to the company is Geiger Classic Ballet Academy. http://www.geigerballet.com Quote Link to comment
Guest scorpiodancer0007
Thanks! I'll tell my mom about it sometime so that she can take me there to look around. Do you know if most studios will let you watch their classes before you register for classes? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 9, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted April 9, 2005 Yes, most studios will do that. And if I were you, I would do it as soon as possible. The longer you wait for good training the more difficult it will be. Quote Link to comment
Guest scorpiodancer0007
Thanks! I'm going to a summer camp this year, so should I look at studios before I leave for camp or after I get back? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 9, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted April 9, 2005 Summer camp??? You are not dancing all summer? If you want to be a dancer, you need to be at a Summer Intensive program, THIS YEAR! Forget camp. Go NOW. Quote Link to comment
Guest scorpiodancer0007
My summer camp starts on June 27th and ends on July 29th. So I'll have a little while before and after I go to camp. Quote Link to comment
Guest une ballerine fou
With all due respect, Ms. Leigh, it might not be that easy for her to "forget camp". Her parents most likely put in the deposit already, that's usually thousands of dollars Edited April 9, 2005 by une ballerine fou Quote Link to comment
