open classes in or near Sunnyvale, CA

I'll be up in Sunnyvale for a fairly important meeting next week. I'm coming in the night before and will be quite tense -- a class would be just the thing to help! Anyone know about any open classes -- I'm a solid to advanced intermediate dancer, but honestly, I know how I'll be feeling and I'll take anything!

Thanks

Hi pleiades...Mountain View has two very good schools. One of them offers adult classes for sure...it is Pacific Ballet Academy (pacificballet.org). The other school is Mountain View Ballet School/Western Ballet (westernballet.org) A childhood friend who danced with the Royal Ballet teaches here. I'm familiar with some of the faculty at both schools, and they are very good.

P.S. I just checked more thoroughly, and Western Ballet School does indeed also have adult classes....my friend there is Marilyn Trounson.

western ballet would be perfect -- they have class on the night I'm there. Unfortunately, I've been booked (not changeable fare) on a flight that gets me in too late. I am truly, shall we say, bummed.

what a bummer! I know how you feel -- I travel too and often face these types of situations.

One suggestion -- never let the travel department decide your fate!!! I often pick the flights I want and then tell them to book it for me. That way, you make sure to get in early enough to make the class.

I used to take class almost daily at Western and I really miss it. Marny Trounson is a great teacher, and though she may not remember me much, I actually started adult pointe in her class. I think it was all of 3 whole months before I had to stop because of work schedule, then I had to figure out something else.

Normally I do control my own travel -- this was just one of those situations where I'm at the mercy of my hosts. Who, I might add were incredibly gracious and changed my flight (my travel coordinator is a ballet fan!)

I should be in class on Wednesday night . . . Yippee

Gina, thank you SO much for your suggestion of Western Ballet. I made it to class and had a wonderful time. The teacher and students were all lovely: after hearing the story of my bizarre cab ride (too insane to recount here!), one of them even took me back to my hotel after class.

Thanks again, and I can't recommend the studio highly enough to anyone in the area.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed your class, and happy that the suggestion was okay for you... :sweating:
