we have to do double echappes a lot, the kind where you sort of hop on pointe before reaching full pointe in a wide second. i try to do it, but i always wind up only hopping on one foot because i can't get both to. any suggestions? thanks :-)

Now, that's not a "double echappé" from my unabashed ballet dictionary, but sounds more like a step (choreographic) from one of the variations in Coppélia. In Legat, a double echappé is done with a spring from both feet 5th to 2nd. Then there's a demi-plié, another relevé in 2nd and close. It may be similar in Vaganova. In any case, in doing any echappé the springs in or out must be done equally from both feet.

Try thinking of you legs trying to "escape" by moving out at the same time and then trying to go even farther after they go out. Don't think of hopping because you might overdue the hopping part and it could hurt. Hope it helps!!
