My daughter was just accepted into the year round program and we only have a couple of weeks to decide.  To be perfectly honest, I never thought she would be accepted so I didn't think I'd have to worry about this decision.  She is 14, turning 15 soon.  She was accepted into Level 1/2.  What are the age ranges for this program?  The schedule shows only 2.5 hours of dance a day, which is far less than what she's doing at her home studio.  Apparently they are not offering housing this year so we were given a list of people to connect with, which I have been emailing since yesterday.  A few questions:  1) about how large are the classes?  2) my daughter is short - 5'1".  Boston is actually her dream company.  I see that very few of the dancers from the school end up in the Company.  If we refuse this offer will they hold it against her as far as coming back for SI next year or remember that she refused if she ever auditions for the Company in the future?

We have not made a decision yet and I just don't know what to do.  It looks like a wonderful opportunity and I am worried a chance like this will never happen again.  I would have to move out there with her, though.  She is my youngest so I have no younger children at home to worry about, but I'd be leaving my husband for 9 months.  We live a 15 hour drive away, in the midwest.

I'm looking for some guidance in how to make this decision.

First of all congratulations! Pre1/2 is the smallest level because BBS gives them lots of attentions. The girls will be 14-15 years old. My daughter is 5’2” and her roommate is 5’0”, so she will be in good company. Only one girls will be a returning dancer in that level, so most of the girls will be new.

It will NOT to held against your daughter in the future as they understand relocating is a big deal. My daughter had her first year there last year and grew tremendously. A great supportive environment.

Ashley in the office is great and can answer many of your questions. Let me know if you have additional questions.

Joribelle,

Hello ! I am in the same situation that you are. We are also struggling with making a decision. We live in Denver and are so concerned about housing.

Would you mind sharing any information? My daughter has talked to 2 girls who stayed last year and loved it but of course no other details yet. Could we share emails? I would love

to be in touch with you.

I am new to this forum situation.

Sue

The point of these threads is to share information for the benefit of all who are interested in the program.  If everyone takes their shares off-Board, there is no reason to maintain the threads. 😉

Please be thoughtful about sharing information for the benefit of our whole community.

Thanks for the great info so far; I was wondering if you could tell me the size of the 1/2 program?  How many dancers are in this level?  I noticed the schedule is only 2.5 hours of dance a day.  DD has been doing more than that at her home studio and it concerns me that it might not be enough.  Also, does your dancer participate in the day program as well?  Any info you have about that would be great.

The 1/2 level is the smallest level. Last year there were 9 girls and 4 boys. There is the ability to take an optional adult class in the morning if your dd wanted to. The training at BBS is more focused quality over quantity. My dd felt the hours were appropriate and she improved tremendously.

Hi - My daughter, 18, was just accepted off the waitlist for the Pre-Professional program - Trainee level. Classes start 8/26 and she'll be moving from Portland, OR. Is anyone else still looking for roommates?  Thanks

Danceparentpdx,

Our daughter is 17, is from Seattle, and was just accepted into the pre-professional 4 program for this fall. We are also looking for housing for her and would be interested in communicating with anyone who is in the same boat. My email address is askalbania@aol.com if that is an easier way to contact me than by posting on this site. Thanks!

Major news was emailed to parents and verbally disclosed to student's today. Boston Ballet Pre Pro program will join partnership with Walnut Hill for fall 2021.  Walnut Hill School for the Arts is located about 30 minutes outside of Boston and Boston Ballet current location. This is a major change for all  the students since most are from out of state. Walnut Hill offers academic , music, arts, dance and boarding , so the  cost will double for most.

Boston Ballet have generously offered to escort  all pre-pro student for visit day at Walnut Hill and modify the application process.

The new program will be known as "Boston Ballet School's Professional Division At Walnut Hill".

Needless to say, figurately and literally this is a lot to swallow.
