Classes In New Jersey

Hi,

 

Can anybody sugggest good schools for an adult beginner (never had a lesson) in Monmouth County New Jersey? Thank you.

The Academy of Dance Arts in Red Bank has adult ballet classes. They are a reputable school. My DD is a pre-pro studetn there and several adults I know take class there.

It's not in monmouth but either princeton ballet, or princeton dance and theater studio have adult ballet classes.

I also recommend the Academy of Dance Arts. Jennifer Church is the AD and Charles Nicholl originally from Cincinnati Ballet is the teacher of the adult classes, I believe. My daughter danced at this school from age 4 to age 15.

Thank you so much for the recomendation. I will give them a call. Are any of your friends male dancers? Are any of your friends in their mid-40's and/or male? It's more curiosity than anything else.

They're probably a little far from me, but I most definitely call them. Thank you.

Adult beginner here too in NJ, although North NJ, Bergen County. I have been taking some barre stretching classes but now ready to make the leap to the "real" classes. Good luck to you! Let's trade newbie notes!

Any good schools in North NJ that people like?

Kevin - sorry for the delay in responding. My one friend is a male in his early 40s who just had to stop due to an injury (not dance related). I have seen a couple (maybe 2) males come out of adult classes when I have been at the studio but I am not there that often anymore so perhaps there are more. I pretty much drop DD off and pick up in the parking lot these days. Good Luck - I know the fall scehdule is out and I see at least 3 classes each week on the schedule.

Why not call New Jersey School of Ballet. They have classes in Livingston, Somerville & one other place???? Livingston is their primary location and has the most classes to choose from. 973-597-9600

I know of three studios in Bergen County with Adult Beginner classes.

 

Center for Modern Dance Education

CMDE in Hackensack will have a Thursday evening adult beginner class starting again in September. The ballet teacher is male. There are also classes in other dance styles with many adult beginners if you are feeling adventurous. This fall they will be having a performance project specifically for men that you might want to check out. So far this is the school that I've found to have the most opportunities for adults.

 

Dance Art Center

The Dance Art Center in Teaneck recently opened, and they have an adult beginner class on Tuesday evenings. I haven't been to this class, but their Intermediate level is good. A few years ago, when this space was used by a different school, there were two gentleman regularly taking classes. I wonder where they are now.

 

Nunnbetter

Nunnbetter in Bergenfield has adult ballet classes. There are more classes on their schedule now than when I attended, so I'm not sure how "beginner" they are.

 

I would say all of these schools are worth checking out, depending on your schedule. I'd be happy to answer any questions about them.

That "Men's Project" at CMDE looks very interesting. And CMDE itself has some good things...seems worth a look.

Hi! The Academy of Dance Arts in Red Bank, NJ has adult classes for all levels. They have an excellent reputation for strong technique, they follow R.A.D. syllabus for their dancers. The teachers who teach the adult classes also teach the younger one. They have terrific studios with great floors.
