Skyadancer, technique question are answered first by moderators. After that, if someone has something to add that worked for them, fine, but not in the form of advice. Teachers do the advising here! :D

What is not working? Are you centered and on balance? Is your head working? Are you using your back muscles? What happens when it doesn't work, like which way do you fall? You need to know these things in order to know how to fix the problem. What are the corrections your teacher is giving you in classes?

I seem to be hopping it abit, my spotting is fine and my teachers syays i'm not pulling up quick enough, that i just leave my leg hangin. i've tired to fix it, but it hard. also, my fourths are, out of habit, too big.

Okay, so you know what the problems are. Make the 4th smaller. That is not a big deal, and very easy to correct. Get up to the relevé quicker. That you will be able to do if the 4th is not too big. :D Also be sure that you have your weight more in the front leg and that you get to the retiré position very quickly on the relevé.

Talking about pirouettes, they are my weak spot. My teachers constantly tell me I'm throwing my upper body back, dropping my arms, and splaying my ribs. I try so hard to fix these things, but I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

Work on your relevé from 4th, not turning, and learn to keep your ribs relaxed and your torso centered and your arms in the right place. If you are centered in your retiré position at the barre, you can also do it in the center, as long as your legs and feet are strong enough to allow a good relevé. Once you have that, then do a 1/4 turn in the position, holding the end of it. When you are solid with that, go to 1/2 turn, and then a single turn. When you have a well placed single turn that finishes up, not falling into the 4th or 5th, then a bit more force and two spots and you have a double.

hey SweetSorrow123,

this sounds kind of like my problem, two things my teacher said helped me.

1 - breathing, it helps you relax an gives more rhythm to your preparation (breathe out on the degage derriere(sp?) in on the plie and out on the turn

2 - don't hold your plie for too long, if you sit in your plie it is harder to releve with speed, deepen your plie a tiny bit in the moment before you releve.

I can't guaruntee this will work, but it helped me.

I have the same issue and i guess it just takes a lot of patience. Also doing 200 crunches everyday, backups help and you will see improvement. Also try pulling up when doing your turn, and keeping your Pase higher if possible. Try to relax and dont bring your shoulders up!

i hope that helps!!

I have trouble with my pirrouettes staring closing in fifth en dehors. I can never seen to get round because I haven't got enough force to get me round!

Then your answer is very simple. More torque on starting, more push down in the middle, more pull straight up on landing. You'll be amazed at how little extra torque it takes.
