janninepointe
So eveyone knows that a shorter torso in comparison to the legs is what is required for ballet(or at leas eveness). If you were to measure this where would you start from? Is the head part of the torso? Where do you measure the legs from? Thank you Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 8, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted November 8, 2005 Janinepointe, I moved this to YD, as I felt it was more appropriate for this forum. Actually, one should not need to measure to know this. It is quite visibly obvious whether one is even, or if the legs are long and the torso short, or vice versa. Also, if one is still growing, it's pointless to measure until the growth is finished, since sometimes the legs grow before the torso and then the later growth is more in the torso in some people. Always hard to tell. If you can't tell, the easiest way to know would be asking someone who can see you, like your teacher. Quote Link to comment
janninepointe
Thankyou at my school there has been alot of talk about your legs looking longer or shorter if you look at them yourself. Still where does the torso start and end? I know that dressmakers take legs from the hips or waist but we aren't talking about pants... I would really like to know! Oh and I'm sorry I posted it in the wrong forum I thought a while before sticking it in the other one =P Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 8, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted November 8, 2005 No problem, janninepoint. The torso is the length from the shoulders to the hips. The legs are attached at the hips, so, that would be the leg length, although pant length is generally measured differently. If you are short waisted, you probably have long legs. If you are long waisted, you most likely have short legs in comparison to torso. Quote Link to comment

That will give you the perspective you need, and defeat the foreshortening you get when you simply look down. Quote Link to comment
