I know it's a bit early to be talking about summer intensives, but I have to start now for a class. Anyway, I'm trying to pursue a career as a choreographer, and I've been dying to get my hands on some information for summer choreography programs or choreography competitions taking place throughout the year. I just can't seem to find much of anything. HELP PLEASE!!!

(and yes, I did Google this).

In classical ballet, this can be a tall order! Many Modern programs have choreographic skills built into them, as in improvisation. But the track to ballet choreography is different. One must become the very best dancer, with a very broad experience and knowledge of classical vocabulary. You don't have to be able to DO them all, but you must know what they are, and how to teach others to do them. Then the choreographic element takes over in how to extend, modify and re-order the step or position and make it unique. As I say, it's a tall order!

London is far away but London Studio Centre offers a choreography SI (for the first time) in 2006. I am sure that there are similar programmes in the US. Most programmes (in the UK) do offer choreography as part of a programme, thus the SI at LSC is somewhat new.

Yes, sir. I realize this. That's why I want to get involved in some sort of workshop that would help me out. I feel like I have a good start seeing as how two pieces that I have choreographed have won competitions in my state, but I do know that there is a much bigger world if I want to make this a career. Thanks, though. I know exactly where you're coming from.

Yeah, that's definately exactly what I'm looking for. I would love to hear about something like this in the states (particularly the south).
