Guest galenaballet
Hi, There is alot of talk about what schools are good enough to train our children to go on to professional careers, I left a big city, Chicago and moved to the Illinois/Iowa border. My daughter now attends The Academy Of Ballet in Dubuque Ia. No where the size of Chicago of course. But, I actually think she is getting much better training then her previous school in the Chicago! My only concern is what I read on this board, and the concerns of a smaller town schools. And I also read of the concern that the teachers my not be quilified enough to send students onto dance companies. I want to share our schools founders bio and I wondering if you could give me some feedback. *Tatiana Bechenova is the founder and artistic director; Tatiana bagan training in Paris with Maryinski ballerina, Lubov Egorova. Tatina joined the ballet Jeunessa, and a year later became the youngest member of the Ballet Russe, Col.de Basil, touring for seven years. As a soloist Tatiana performed with legendary dancers and choreographers, including Balanchine, Fokine, Danilova, Bronislava Nijinksa, Lifar, Franklin and Lichine. Tatina became the principle dancer for Agnes de Mille. *Marina is a second generation dancer, the daughter of Tatina. Her training began at the Academy of Ballet, the school founded by Tatiana.Marian also studied in Chicago, Kansa City and Minneapolis with Stone/Camryn, the Dukodwskys and Loyce Houlton. After gratuating, Mariana studies at the International School of Dance in Cannes, France, and she has completed three Teachers course with internationally renown Master Teacher, David Howard. I have shortened the bio's a bit, they have made many other contributions. I believe these are wonderful teachers and a hidden gem in the midwest! But I am only a mother and a novice. My daughter may never go on to dance professionally, but I also dont want her to miss the oppertunity because of my lack of knowledge! Thanks! Jen Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
There are many rural schools, and many fine teachers who teach in them. They each have to be considered in their own rights, as sometimes we find a finely-trained student who moves in from elsewhere, and was taught by someone we've never heard of before, but they must know their stuff! That usually causes a phone call to the previous teacher, and very often, the small world of ballet shows itself again, as that teacher had studied with someone we know, or studied with, or just to make us feel old, somebody we taught, who got married, and now is teaching under her married name.
