Guest SweetSorrow123
My mom does not want me to continue ballet because she thinks it as a recreational activity, I on the other hand am very talented and enjoy myself. I understand the work and patience it take to dance. My mom does pay for my classes and shoes, but wishes me to stop because i have knee problems, etc. I've seen the Physio a couple of times and got excersize, There getting a bit better and i don't complain. My mom doesn't support my dancing as a (hopefully sometime) carreer. My mom's not the enemy, but its very frustrating. Anything i can do to help my mom understand? Quote Link to comment
balletbaby14
Try to get your mom to come watch one of your classes. (Make sure it's okay with your teacher first.) If your mom sees you working hard and loving it, she might let you continue. Good luck! java script:emoticon('') Quote Link to comment

Mel Johnson
And even better than that, does she ever go to see a professional ballet company dance? That trip could be even more important in showing that there is a career out there. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted December 7, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted December 7, 2005 Sweetsorrow, are you in an intensive program? How many classes a week are you taking? Do they have parent observation days? Any performances? Has she ever had a conference with your teacher? Students who are seriously involved in dance need their parents support, and the parents should be involved at least enough to attend the observation days and all performances. Quote Link to comment
Guest SweetSorrow004
new account, I am sweetsorrow123 Anyways, she sees the nutcracker i dance in. I take two 1 1/2 hour classes + one one hour pointe class (not really alot, but if the school were 10 min. away...). Its my third year of pointe, in last intermediate level, but still. I know she meens, well + i do well in school (aspiring scientist, my choice.) i know she will support what i choose, but, i want to dance proffessionally someday. does anyone know of any good dance studio in the west island, montreal, quebec, cananda? I'm dancing with ballet ouest (school off the company). The fact is though that she know i'm a talented dancer but she wants me to stop every year. i never do, because i make sure i dance, and she ends up agreeing. Trop confusing. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted December 7, 2005 Administrators Report Share Posted December 7, 2005 SweetSorrow, two technique classes a week is not only not enough to work towards dancing professionally, it's not even enough to safely dance on pointe and to advance beyond an Int. level. One simply will not become advanced as a classical dancer on 4 hours a week. It should be more like 2.5 to 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. Sorry Quote Link to comment
