Guest Monalysa
I am really interested in beginning ballet within the next few months. I am a very determined person, so I will work hard to be good. I have a history of tumbling and cheerleading and I am 16. I am super flexible and strong. So I was just wondering if anyone could please tell me about how long would it take to start pointe? What should I be practicing prior to beginning pointe? Are there any tips? Thanks! Any advice is helpful. -Monalysa Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Hi, Monalysa, and welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers. You're looking at about three years of training, the last year of which before you start pointe should consist of at least three 90-minute classes per week. There is nothing you can practice on the outside of class for preparation for pointe. Pilates might be useful just on general principles. Your training should be the best you can find, and a core strength and flexibility will helpful, but won't make the specific technique requirements come any faster. Quote Link to comment
