Hiya,

Does anyone know of Monica Loughman?

She's Irish and she moved from here to Perm, Russia when she was 13. She now dances for Perm State Theatre where she is a soloist and the Cork City Ballet in ireland where she's a principle dancer.

She's amazing!

Yes, I know her quite well. We danced together in Cork. She is an exceptional dancer, and a wonderful, wonderful person. Incredibly funny and kind. In some ways, I think she is sort of the image you have of a "real" ballerina. She is very beautiful, very good, but also very relaxed and very, very kind to everyone she works with.

She has written a book, The Irish Ballerina, about her time in Perm. It's hard to find outside Ireland, but it's to be published in the U.K soon. She needed a better editor, but the raw material is fascinating.

Several years ago the Irish broadcaster RTE made a radio series about dance in Ireland. Programme 4 includes an interview with Monica Loughman. Move the realplayer cursor to 22 minutes and you should find it.
