Swiss_Chard
It looks like I will be spending three weeks in Santa Barbara for a workshop this summer. Of course, my first concern is, where can I take classes? Does anyone have any recommendations? I've been taking classes for two years now, so I'm about a solid beginner. Quote Link to comment
101driver
Gustafson Dance - the official school of the State Street Ballet. Great instructors - open class with the company - nice studio. My daughter dancers there and we love it. They have a web sit with all the info. Have fun in Santa Barbara! Maybe I'll see you at the studio... Quote Link to comment
Swiss_Chard
Thanks. I'll check it out. Quote Link to comment
Swiss_Chard
Actually, I do have one more question. Do you know how far away the studio is from UCSB? I think my sessions will end at five, so I'm a little concerned about being able to get there in time. Thank you. Quote Link to comment
101driver
Will you have a car? Depending on traffic, it's about a 20 minute drive from UCSB to downtown SB. There are classes that start at 5:30. If you don't have a car, you can take the city bus that drives right from UCSB to the main bus terminal that is a few blocks away from the studio (just down State Street). You can PM me if you need more info. Quote Link to comment
Swiss_Chard
I don't know if I'll have a car yet. It will depend on if I will have somewhere to park it. I will know more information closer to the date, so if I have more questions, I will PM you then. Thank you! Quote Link to comment
Andre Yew
I also recommend Gustafson. There's a variety of teachers with different approaches, and though it's less likely during the summer, you may also find yourself in class with a few of the company dancers, which is pretty inspiring. During summer, they also have great guest teachers from their summer intensive teaching the adult classes. Note that Gustafson may be moving sometime this year to another location in town, so check out their website or call ahead first: http://www.gustafsondance.com If you're at UCSB at the right time, there's also a good adult class available at UCSB from their recreation program. Check out this website for more information: http://www.recreation.ucsb.edu/leisure/leisure.php It's on winter right now, but changes seasonally. Feel free to contact me if you want someone to show you around town. --Andre Quote Link to comment
Swiss_Chard
Thank you for the additional information. I actually live in San Diego. I'll just be in Santa Barbara in July. Gustafson Dance does sound very nice. I hope I will be able to make it to some classes. Quote Link to comment
Tiffany
I'm planning on auditioning for the State Street Ballet of SB; do they have any short dancers? I'm 5'2". Any other info about the company will be welcome. I noticed from looking through dancer bio's on website that most haven't been with the company long; any idea why they aren't staying around for very long? Quote Link to comment
