Does anybody have any secrets maybe into getting a full split. I stretch and strengthen everywhere I can but it seems like my leg gets stuck at 4 o clock. Any advice? Also- I'm not the most natural turner. Any tricks to that also would be great. My teacher says if you can do triples and the like you have a natural rthym.

Hello balletgirl116, welcome to the Young Dancers' forum here on Ballet Talk for Dancers :)

Actually, a 6:00 penché is really not needed for most classical work, but if you have a really good arabesque, above 90 degrees, then the rest is just learning how to use your abs and your quads and the proper degree of tilt. First you develop the arabesque, and the penché will come! :) Doing it in the center is a matter of strength and control of your alignment and balance point.

Pirouettes do not need tricks, just technique and practice, and practice, and more practice. You need the core strength to hold yourself on relevé in the pirouette position, you need to know how to spot, and then how to use your back muscles and arms to help you get the momentum to turn.

try getting againest a wall and put your leg upon it and try to pull your body up in an arch or you can get in the door frame and put your leg up on it the same way and use the other side of the frame to help full you up into your arch because you can pull on it. just keep working on this and your leg will get higher eventually.

hi. my turns were horrible before, but recently they've been improving.

i think that thinking about pushing down through your center when your doing your releve really helps

yup and a strong back (that's what my ballet teachers always shout x) )

hope it helps

Yes, yes, yes!

Remember, push down to go up (on relevé) and lift up to go down (in plié)!
