biners6
My parents and i have a deal that i have to take a day off every week (based on advice from my nutritionist and their own beliefs). However, i'll admit that i don't always stick to that agreement, and when my mom finds out she is, to put it nicely, not happy about that. Anyways, I was just wondering-how neccessary is a day off? Is it counterproductive to have class every day? I know the kids at CPYB have class every day... advice would be appreciated! Thanks Link to comment
Mel Johnson
You can get away with class every day, but after awhile, it catches up to you. Better to choose to take one day off a week than to be forced to take six months off later. Link to comment
vrsfanatic
Definitely, take the day off. When you are young it is difficult to understand, but eventually you will appreciate what your parents and doctor have advised. The voice of experience speaks...open your ears and hear! mydarlindancer
Biners6, I have read that although classes are OFFERED seven days a week at CPYB, they are definitely not mandatory. Link to comment
vrsfanatic
darlindancer, thank you for your heartfelt input. The information will be allowed since it has served the purpose of clearing up confusion, however non-Young Dancers, please make your contributions to the day off question on the Cross Talk Forum. http://dancers.invisionzone.com/index.php?...topic=28358&hl= Link to comment
Guest sarez
Like Mr. Johnson said, class every day can definately hurt you in the long run. I know from experience that overuse injuries like stress fractures and tendinitis are much more likely to happen if you don't take a day off. Link to comment
obi hav kanavi
I am certainly an advocate of having a day off every week.(If i had it my way it would be two) It is extreemely essential for physical health and mental well being, as was stated above. A day off helps your muscles repair and refuel themselves, and it gives your brain a chance to not think about ballet and get back to normal life for a few hours. Here's to a day off!!! Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 24, 2006 Administrators Report Share Posted January 24, 2006 However, during audition season this is not always possible, and it is not going to kill anyone once in a while. I am not a proponent of 7 days a week at all, and especially not on a regular basis, but, there are times when it is necessary and that is okay. This is auditions we are talking about here, not regular classes 7 days a week. Link to comment
biners6
interesting....i guess "mommy's always right!" thanks for the input...i will try to start taking days off! Link to comment
dancerdriver
I can't believe it! My son requested to take a day off today from class. He has been dancing 7 days a week lately plus fitting in auditions. Saturday he danced 3 hours then got on a train to NYC for an audition, did a 2 hour audition and then we got home at 1:00 A.M. He was up early on Sunday for the drive to MA where he rehearsed for 4 hours. Then he studied for mid-year exams. He said his knee and back were sore and he would like to take a day off. Of course I said yes but it is telling that the stress of rehearsals for 3 different performances, class 6 days a week and auditions every weekend plus keeping up with school during exam time is really taking a toll. I danced competively when I was his age but I never had the stress that comes with the territory now. Link to comment
