dbleon
Moderators, please move if not appropriate. I want to extend our family's deepest appreciation to Mirabray and her family for spending the night with DD at the ER. Mere words are never enough when your childs health is at risk (apparent allergic reaction due to cross contamination at a restaurant) so here's 3 cheers to a generous family who took in a CDN girl trying to reach her dream! Angels do live among us!! Quote Link to comment
BW
Oh my gosh, dbleon - thank goodness your daughter is alright and she was in Mirabray's family's good hands!!!! Quote Link to comment
Clara 76
My goodness I'm glad she's allright! That must have been scary for her & you, and I'm glad one of the Ballet Talk tribe was there! Quote Link to comment
dbleon
Thanks BW and Clara76.......she's still a bit shakey from it all, paranoid to eat anything! Her daddy wants her home...LOL I am just grateful to her surrogate parents...and that we never let her leave the country without extra health insurance. now we get to play the wait and see if it's covered under the policy game... I am however appalled at the restaurant's attitude...might as well have told her to "you know what" She always makes sure the server's know of her food allergies...somehow there was a cross contamination issue! Thanks goodness she is all right! I have multiple allergies and a restaurant nearly finished me off - they told me the dessert had clear, not coloured gelatine, on it. Oh no it didn't! I nearly died from analphalatic shock. They didn't want to know. Does your daughter have an adrenalin pen? I do now, and although I haven't needed to use it, they can save your life. Fiz
I fail the mother of the year award...her epi-pens were expired! I neglected to check them before she headed south of the border <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't feel too bad! They do expire quite quickly and it was my family doctor that pointed out to me that my epi-pen was out of date! Quote Link to comment
balletbooster
dbleon, I'm so glad your daughter is alright. Things like this are scary enough if they are close by, but when they are in another country - Yikes! So glad that she had good BT folks to be with her. Quote Link to comment
Babsaroo
dbleon - What a nightmare. I'm glad she's OK and thankful Mirabray's family was able to help. Quote Link to comment
mirabray
Thanks for give kind words, never read so many labels in my life. Your DD is such a lovely person. Quote Link to comment
topazio
dbleon, Thank goodness all turned out ok. My son has multiple food allergies and carries his food to restaurants to eat. We have had waiters and managers come to us about bringing food in from outside but as we usually are spending a small fortune in their restaurant, they mostly don't say anything, except to comment on how good his dinner looks. HAving spent countless hours in ERs, I don't take chances with his food. I heard recently that a girl died after having kissed her boyfriend who had just eaten a peanut butter cookie. She even had an epipen with her. Quote Link to comment
Fiz
I heard recently that a girl died after having kissed her boyfriend who had just eaten a peanut butter cookie. She even had an epipen with her. I'd read that too, Topazio, but not the bit about the epipen. My doctor told me cheerfully,'They don't always work!' Let's hope they always do if one of us needs them to! Fiz. xxx Quote Link to comment
Anne22
I am so thankful that your daughter is ok now. I understand exactly what you are going through. Both of my children have a severe peanut allergy and they will both be away at college next year. They both have an epi pen that I hope will always work! It is so important also that their friends know what to do in case of an emergency and to also ask as many questions as needed to clarify the food content. Sometimes I feel like I am a nuisance to the waiters. It has become easier now that more of the public are aware of food allergies. My DD is also paranoid to eat anything new. Sometimes I wonder how she has the energy and strength for all of her ballet. Quote Link to comment
Balletmom
dbleon, I am so glad your daughter is OK, and thank you for posting such an uplifting story. It can be easy to forget that good people like Mirabray are still around--even in NYC! Angels do live among us!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Quote Link to comment
