tsavoie
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question or not, but here goes... My 18 year old son is planning to audition for the company in April. I have found 3 hotels close by and they all say you must be over 21 to check in. Is this common in Miami, and does anyone in the area have any suggestions? THe plan was for him to travel directly to Miami and back by himself. Thanks for any help, Terri Quote Link to comment
ajg
I would suggest calling the hotels directly. It could be they want to filter out college partiers and if you called would let you make arrangements. My younger son attended the Miami Ballet SI this past summer and my husband and I stayed at the South Beach Hotel. It was inexpensive and just a block away from the Miami Ballet Studios: South Beach Hotel 236 21st Street, Miami Beach, Florida 33139, United States I would recommend it. Quote Link to comment
LRS
Have you tried calling Miami Ballet directly? The company/school may have arrangements with an area hotel for circumstances like this one! Quote Link to comment

Thanks for any help, Terri <{POST_SNAPBACK}> HI TERRI, have a dd in miami...a good place within walking distance is the Mantell Plaza. They house many of Miami's Dancers~ both Professional and Students However, this is not a dorm, per se/ or affliated with the school. It is within walking distance/ 3 blocks of the ballet studios. Very safe. Hope it works out @ 255 W. 24th Street Miami Beach 33140 Ask For Ray Breslin @ Bresaro Suites 1-305-535-8225 Quote Link to comment

pattypirouette
My daughter and I absolutely LOVE the Abby hotel - right across a little park from the Miami City Ballet - you can see it from the front door. It is a little boutique hotel - almost like staying in your own bedroom - very cozy - with a fantastically yummy greek restaurant attached. I would stay there again and again if only she would keep auditioning there forever! While your dancer is at the audition (you should really go with him!!!!) - you can walk two little blocks to the beach where there is a boardwalk to walk along or sit and relax and watch the endless parade of beach people! I'm a "beachy person" myself - New England though - so I had never quite seen anything like the Miami beach crowd... Quote Link to comment
supportivemom
Unfortunately, the Abby Hotel was closed last summer (perhaps it has re-opened now). My husband had also loved it. As a result, I ended up at the South Beach Hotel pehaps 1/2 a block away and it was clean, comfortable and exceptionally convenient. AJG posted contact information above. Hope this helps. pattypirouette
Oh NO ..... I am so SO sad about that information.... Thanks for letting me know, maybe it's a good thing we don't need to go back there! Quote Link to comment
tsavoie
I wish I could go with him-would like to see the sun. Unfortunately, we are starting from 2 different places and he will be flying to boston the very next day. Not much of a vacation. Quote Link to comment
tsavoie
NSMH--I wanted to thank you for your help. This was the only place that would let him stay by himself of everywhere that I called. Quote Link to comment
