Hello All :(

I am not 'naturally flexible,' and so I have to work hard for my splits. I streach every night for awhile on each leg, but my left leg keeps doing something funny. I will be sitting in the splits, and all the sudden I just pull my hamstring. I don't know if it is something I'M doing to it - like overstreaching it? - but I really don't know.

Thanks for reading :)

Hello Eparkes, and welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers :(

Are you totally warmed up for stretching? Splits are stretches that should not be done without a full warm up, most especially if you not naturally flexible.

Ummm....sorry, but I just don't consider that a full warm up. One actually should do a barre before doing extension stretches. There is a logical reason why the extension work happens in the last third of a ballet barre, with stretching, adagio and grand battements at the end. By that time, which is usually at least 30 minutes or more, the body should be ready for stretching.

Why are you sorry? I find this information helpful and will most definatly consider it ^^ Thanks, Mrs. Leigh!
