TyneeDancer
I'm currently taking classes at what has been refered to as a Dolly Dinkle school. I want desperatly to make a serious career out of dance and am getting no help now. I kinda started late like I turn 16 this year. We don't have much money so there aren't many options that I know of. I'm taking a 6 week intensive @ Grand Rapids Ballet Co. this summer I feel like I'll be way outta my leauge though. Any advice. Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted February 28, 2006 Administrators Report Share Posted February 28, 2006 TyneeDancer, the only advice I have is to do the summer intensive, do the best you can and learn everything you can, and then find a way to get to a good school on a regular basis. There is no way you will make a career in ballet unless you are dancing at a professional school for several years, no matter how much talent and physical facility you might have. The training is critical. If you are talented, you can always hope for a scholarship at a good school, or at least some financial help. Quote Link to comment
PrettyonPointe45
I'd just like to add, although it might not help you any because I'm not sure if you have problems finding a serious studio... there's lots of nice schools in the Grand Rapids area, if that's where you live. I'm not sure if you're actually going away to your summer intensive or not. Also, about prices of tuiton, I used to attend a dolly dinkle for the first year I was dancing. The prices at the dolly dinkle were actually *higher* than at the very serious school I'm attending now. I'm not sure if that applies to all dolly dinkles or not, but it's just something to consider. Guest crayonsdeluxe
You should probably call the school and ask about financial aid. They might be able to help and at least they'll have you in mind when they DO give scholarships. Good luck!!) Quote Link to comment
