hotchocolategirl
Hi everyone, I worry alot about what the teachers and other students think of me while dancing. I have noticed that this really inhibits me from concentrating just on what I am doing at that moment because I am so caught up in what others are thinking or feeling. I know I need to stop worrying about everyone else and just focus on myself but I can't seem to stop. Does anyone have any suggestions? Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Don't try to think for other people. That's your teacher's job. Relax and enjoy! Quote Link to comment
hotchocolategirl
Haha That is one way of looking at it. Thanks I will definetly try to stop thinking for them. It is really frustrating when I am in the middle of a combination and mess up and start wondering what the teacher thinks. Quote Link to comment
Guest 321dance
hi- what i like to remember is that in ballet, you're concentrating so much on the steps and expression that you don't really have time to worry about what others think, which means that others don't have time to think about your mistakes. also remember that everyone makes mistakes so you aren't alone. it can also be helpful in a way for your teacher to see your mistakes so that he/she can help you correct them. just a thought that i hope was helpful! When dancing, only look at the instructor or that Spot on the wall...and FEEL how the exercises are inyur body instead of looking at your reflection in a mirror or measuring yourself to others. Just listen to the music and feel... kikiwede, please recognize that this is the YoungDancer's Forum. Only assigned Moderators are permitted to respond to the students' questions. PrettyonPointe45
I used to have a similar problem... that's probably why I dance better in small classes. Just learn to only focus on yourself. I agree with kikiswede that only looking at your teacher or one spot on the wall can help a lot. Remember, people in your class are probably feeling the same way you are. Quote Link to comment
dance_4_eternity
Hey that might be part of my problem of not dancing as well with better students! As I was reading the first post on this topic I realized that's what I'm doing! Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Princess_at_heart
When I went to my first SI audition, I was most worried about what the other dancers would think of me, not doing well, or getting in, or anything like that. But really, most of the people were concerned so much about the audition, that I'm sure they didn't even notice me! Quote Link to comment
