Bit Bottom x.x

Ok, first of all, I am NOT trying to be gross. I am VERY serious about this, as it has been bugging me FOREVER. So, mods, please don't think I just want attention :)

Hey guys-

I feel like I have a rather...big bottom. It makes my dancing look horrible. When I do an arabuesce (sp?) there is a big bulge. I don't know if it's muscle or whatnot, but it bugs me..ALOT. When I put my tailbone down, it looks horrible too. Any advice?

Thanks!

A lot of people have this problem, Dani, and it can be either a fixable or permanent situation, or somewhere inbetween. First, look at the women in your family. Are they subject to this kind of body conformation? If so, the problem is probably genetic, and there's not going to be much that can be done about it. Stretching out the gluteals only spreads out the fat so far, and that's the problem. Some bodies store fat in the buttocks area, and that's that. :(

Yes, if it's that big that it prevents you from getting into existing costumes, or is enough to draw comments in leotard ballets.

That answer will vary from artistic director to artistic director, for whom I can take no responsibility.

I know a girl who has a similar problem, and she does (light) stretching before class to stretch the muscles, in the hopes that they will not bulge, but elongate. I don't know if this works, but I'm just passing the informtion along.

(I'm not trying to be gross sorry)

Stand with your legs straight, and a little bit wider than your hips.Stick your but out, diagonally back/side, and slightly bend your knee. You should feel a pull in the center of your butt.

As I said before, I'm no doctor, so I can't even tell you if this is effective, but you can try it if you want. Even if I doesn't work, it feels good to stretch the butt muscles after class.

Good luck
