Guest MissBallet
Hey all In ballet, I have a little issue with my knees. My ballet teacher keeps telling me to straighten my knees, but I can't because they are already as straight as I can make them! I have an indention below my knees. Could that be my problem? I don't know how I can make my knees any straighter. Please help -Dani Quote Link to comment

dance_4_eternity
I knew some one who had the same problem. I don't know what she did about them except that she thought about pulling up her knees instead of just thinking about straitening them. I wonder if it works. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
And there is such a thing as hypOextension. In that, the knees come to full travel in front of straight because the bones won't let them go any further. Fortunately, the condition is fairly rare, and most people who have trouble straightening their knees are experiencing tight ligaments. One good old way to exercise straightening the knees is to sit on the floor with a fairly dead, squashy tennis ball under each knee. Try to flatten out the ball using only your leg strength. sballetgrl
Is hypoextension as common/rare as hyperextension? That is a really good exercise Mr. Johnson. I'm going to have to try that someday. Quote Link to comment
blballet
I have a huge problem with my "bent" knees. I get corrected about it all the time but they just seem so hard to work with! I want straight knees! It will help extend my lines!!! What do I do??????? Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Hypoextension is nowhere as commonly found as hyperextension. It's just one of those genetic peculiarities. Quote Link to comment
dance91
My knees are very difficult to straighten. I really have to work hard to keep them pulled up (which isn't bad) but are there any good stretches I can work on to help my problem. Quote Link to comment

tutucute4u37
Sometimes you may have very tight hamstrings and that is why your knees do not appear be straight. If anyone needs stretches for their hamstrings I would be happy to help but it may be hard to explain. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Thanks, but we have plenty. All you have to do is search on "hamstrings" and hundreds of posts appear. Quote Link to comment

Alrighty I figured that was true but I just wanted to offer it if needed. I'm new here so I'm still finding my way around. Quote Link to comment
