Guest comealive
i hope this is in the right place...I'm still having trouble figuring that out. But anyways, I was just sort of wondering what everyone thinks makes a good dancer? I was complaining at my mother the other day about how everyone in my class seems to be better than me and there all so good. And she asked "Well what makes them better?" and I haven't really been able to think of a plausable answer for that ha ha Well just wondered everyone's opinion...What makes someone a good dancer? vrsfanatic
There is no one answer to your question actually. A clean, strong technique that includes musicality and artistic expressivity appropriate to the movement could be part of the aura. I would imagine that with every post will come different answers. ballet24/7
A lot of it's perception. Ofcourse someone with good technique and artistry can be picked apart from someone with bad technique and artistry....but there is no true definition of a "good dancer." Some of the basics that should be solid I'd say are turns, jumps, adagio, control, clarity, turnout, footwork, movement quality and most of all artistry. Watch some ballet videos and you can usually see what makes them so pleasant to watch. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Dance cleanly and clearly, with great liveliness, and try not to fall off the stage. Quote Link to comment
dance4life56
I would think that as well as excellent tecneque, you need a dancer who loves what they do, and can show it through their movement. I find it more interesting to watch a good dancer, who has a passion, and grace, than a perfect dancer who shows no emotion while doing the movements. Quote Link to comment
tututrina3
To me, the best dancers are excited and passionate onstage, or in a classroom doing what they love. Great technique that's age-appropriate is important, but 'cold' dancers with strong technique arent fun to watch. A student or professional who Loves the Audience & Loves to Dance gets fellow dancers & the crowd excited. In class, technically amazing dancers who look bored or have bad attitudes don't get my attention. The best dancers in class are always working to fix flaws, whether to make extentions higher, plies better, or to do more ---clean--turns. The best dancers, to me, onstage, have their act together, so their technique is wonderful, and they also have that special magic or charistma: you cant take your eyes off them! Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Yes, yes, those are all very well, but not falling off the stage is the big one! Quote Link to comment
Belle of the ballet #1
Yes, yes, those are all very well, but not falling off the stage is the big one! this is definitely very true mr johnson. i don't think anyone would think much of a "dancer" who did this!! Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
And besides, if you did that, even if you kept dancing in the pit, nobody could see you! Quote Link to comment
Guest comealive
I fell off the stage during a dress rehersal several years ago...I missed the pit by just several inches. I kind of manged to throw myself onto the steps while trying to avoid it, and grab the banister. All while letting out a high-pitched shreik that may have possible broken the sound barrier ha ha Quote Link to comment
tillie
At least it wasn't that actual show! Quote Link to comment
