kasaba
Does anyone know of any scientific reason why turning can be easy when moving clockwise but difficult/impossible counterclockwise? Specifically I am referring to pirouette en dehors and pas de bouree turns, tho I often find my left foot saying "HUNH???" on other steps to the left as well. And I'm left-handed! Does this happen to everyone? Is it just because I'm an elderly beginner? Help . . . Quote Link to comment
Trying_to_improve
More experienced people than me might be able to give better answers byt this is my experience. I think we all favour one side slightly over the other naturally, even though I'm left handed I favour my right foot which makes me slightly clumsy in my everyday life. I also think that if you consistently mark on one side (say with the left hand on the bar), so standing on the left leg and gesturing with the right, and marking to the same side in the centre then you work that side more and it gets relatively stronger than the other. So you prefer even more to work on that side, so you repeat and rehearse exercises more to that side, then that side gets even stronger etc etc. This is why I always try to vary were I stand at the barre (so that I mark with alternate sides to try and keep my body even) But I still find that I prefer to stand on my left leg and gesture with my right, which is what you do when you turn clockwise. Guest kacy
I'm not sure about the clockwise/counter-clockwise discussion and "scientific" explanations for it, but there was a good discussion about left-side confusion a little while back. Here's the link to the topic (i hope) http://dancers.invisionzone.com/index.php?...80entry222380 Sorry I didn't make it "pretty"...i'll have to read up on how to do that next! Hope this helps. k Quote Link to comment
