Guest MissBallet
Ok, I feel like the WORST dancer in my class! Honestly. I feel this way. My bottom muscles stick out when I do an arabusqe (sp?) I also don't have very high extensions. And I stretch...ALOT! I have a so-so pointe as well. It's just not...like the other dancers. Help needed! -Dani Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Dani, welcome to the club. We all have alignment issues in arabesque, significantly in making sure that we are well-lifted out of the supporting hip and that we are opening the working hip to allow the leg to rise, but not so much that we splay the hips wide open. You're in the 13-16 age group. Don't worry about getting extensions superhigh now, get the alignment and placement in order. The necessary strength and flexibility will follow. Quote Link to comment
Guest MissBallet
Really? But I have this bulge that sticks up when I go to arabesque. I think it's a muscle and I'm the only dancer in my class who has that problem. I am too chicken to go ask my teacher about. Quote Link to comment
MeAgain
I wouldn't worry about your extension and stretch. Sure, you must work as hard as you can at it, but you're young, and it will come. Instead of distressing about all your faults, why not congratulate yourself for the things you've accomplished?? (by the way, I have the exact same problem as you. Just work as hard as you can at it.) Quote Link to comment
PrettyonPointe45
I think everyone feels as if they're the worst dancer in their class at least once in their life. Work as hard as you can, and just focus on becoming the best dancer you can be! Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
If you've got a bulge somewhere that you can't explain, ask the teacher! She's there and we're not. There's no substitute for eyes-on. Quote Link to comment
Guest MissBallet
I mean, isn't it going to feel...embarrassing? Edited March 19, 2006 by MissBallet Quote Link to comment
PrettyonPointe45
Your parents are paying the studio for you to learn dance. Your teachers are there to help you learn. I wouldn't think it would be embarrassing. Quote Link to comment
Guest MissBallet
But...I don't know.I think I'd feel uncomfortable talking about that area... Oh yeah, I am full of questions ^^ I am NOT trying to start an argument Quote Link to comment
Midnight_Vixen1992
It might be uncomfortable, but as teachers, I think that they've seen and heard pretty much everything. And remember that they too were once students, with just as many concerns and "abnormalities" I'm sure that they've had awkward questions about their dancing as well. If you can, talk to a female teacher if you feel uncomfortable talking about that area. I know it helps me to talk to a female teacher if I have a question about a sensitive subject. I hope I've helped! Quote Link to comment
Gilly
Try not to get too down on yourself. You will dance a whole lot better if you feel motivated and good about yourself, so try more to focus on your good qualities, and work on improving and strengthening. I have been really hard on myself and felt like the worst too, but never give up, and try to see what light there is from the darkness your experiencing. ----gilly--- Quote Link to comment
