Guest pointe-pointe-flex
Hey everybody! My teacher asked us yesterday before the compatition about why we danced. I was amazed by these answers. I dance because I LOVE IT AND COULDNT LIVE WITHOUT IT. I was suprised to hear some very talented dancers say things like, because I have to or I dont know, i have nothing else to do. So I was wondering if my online family could share there stories to cheer me up. Why do you dance?? Sharing the Love, Dancing-Diva-Call-911!!!! Quote Link to comment
vrsfanatic
pointe-pointe-flex your reasons for dancing are really the most important to you. Although there is a good life without dance, loving what one does is a such a positive aspect of life in everyway. You are very fortunate. Quote Link to comment

Fairy
Because I LIVE to dance! I feel SO happy and free when I dance. It's an unbeatable "on top of the world" feeling. Moving, working, sweating, smiling, pretending...it's like breathing, I can't live with out it! It's like a make believe feeling that is real ~Fairy Quote Link to comment
Guest pointe-pointe-flex
That is excatly how I feel! I was wondering...... Why would people continue to dance if they dont have passion for it anymore? What's the whole reason of dancing if you don't feel it in your bones? Quote Link to comment
tillie
well, i guess some people dance because their parents make them, or they just want some exercise. or some people just dance recreationally. im not quite sure. Quote Link to comment
angel_lissa_91
I would go crazy with out it. I love it so much, can't imagine not doing it. Quote Link to comment
dancinpants
I have a very big sense of movement towards music and if I didn't dance...hmmm, I don't know. I think I would go crazy if I didn't dance!!! I like how it is one of the hardest things to do and I feel very accomplished when I can do a good, turned out tendu! LOL! Quote Link to comment
Giraffedancer
It makes me feel so happy, and I can put whatever I'm feeling in to it! I also think I would go crazy without it (when I have to go on school trips for 5-7 days, I end up giving myself a short barre whenever we have free time, so I don't go crazy!) Quote Link to comment
MeAgain
I asked a lot of people in my ballet class why they dance, and I was extremely surprised at how many people replied: "I dunno", or, "Because my mom makes me" or something like that. I knew no one (in my class, anyway) was as crazy as me about dance, but I didn't understand how they could just not care. Ballet is the best, I've always been crazy about it. I suppose it all has to do with your personality. Quote Link to comment
Guest pointe-pointe-flex
Thank you soooo much for capturing my feelings! I thought i was reading a quote for a second!! If these dancers spend so much time and money on dancing why dont they love it like I do???? Also does anyone else notice that some people seem to think that dance class is a gossip group or a place to show off there latest 50 dollar leotard? I despise people like that! Quote Link to comment
MeAgain
My dance classes used to be almost like a public school! There were cliques, gossiping, unnecessary talking, disrespect toward the teacher, and all the "popular" students would come to class just to flaunt their new brand of legwarmers, or some designer skirt or something. Ballet class used to be a place where I could get away from all that stuff. It was all because the teacher was so easy on everybody, she just let them get away with it. It all ended when our old teacher went back to school, and we got a new teacher with the meanest reputation in the studio. She's extremely intimidating, strict, and won't let anybody wear anything except for a black leotard and pink tights. The gossip and talk ended abruptly, of course, and I'm just glad to be back in a REAL ballet class! Quote Link to comment
tututrina3
Why do I dance? I dance because I L-O-V-E it! To dance in class is to work hard towards a dream. To dance onstage is like being IN the dream--already. I feel more joy and excitement onstage and when training than I do at any other time or moment in my whole life. Other teenagers have fun at malls and parties. My idea of fun is to work towards a goal--to achieve it-and then to do real art onstage. it's like poetry in motion. To leap and jump, for me , is like flying. I love the grace of i and the femininity and the athletic power. I dance almost every day--because I just love it. Life without dance wouldn't be so elevated or exciting! Quote Link to comment

To leap and jump, for me , is like flying. Excatly, its like nothing is real but everything is. There is a passion between your body, the music and the steps. It almost seems that dancers have i-pods already equipped in are brains. Moving to are own beats while comforming to the music the stage plays is are idea of living!!! Quote Link to comment
SingingInTheRain
Also, I think people who say that they don't know or don't seem to have a passion for it anymore may be wrong. I think sometimes, you need to take something away to realize how much you love it and why you do it. The girls in your class may have not had taken the time to REALLY think. I have a hard time putting into words why I dance too. Its a passion and a love. I would not be very happy without it. I enjoy moving and working really hard to gain strength, grace and flexibility. I can't imagine a world without dance Quote Link to comment
