Certain Companies? Too Tiny?

Hello,

I know there have been many posts on if a dancer can be too tiny for the ballet world and many have answerwed if a dancer is so good, their size won't matter to some people.

I was wondering if only certain companies will take a very talented dancer no matter what her size. Will some companies not even pay attention to you if your tooo small? Will they just block you out of their mind beause of your size? :)

Thankyou :P

I don't really think we can determine that, Tiny Dancer. Most companies tend to have a mixture of sizes, and also things change all the time. Joffrey used to always want smaller dancers, but this year one of mine auditioned for apprentice and was told that they were looking for taller dancers! So, you never know. :)

yes the ballet nut is right, usually companies will find men~who are not always pletinful~ who are strong and have good technique, then they will match the women to partner witht them with out looking ridiculous. But you really cant tell unless you ask the director because it depends on the year. for instance Joffrey usually wants short girls but this they wanted tall. and Island Moving Co. usually like short men but they got a dancer who was 6 ft 1

Posters, please be sure you post first-hand information about things you actually know----not things you think you know. :)

How tiny are you? Just curious...my daughter is also so small...I'm worried b/c her life is dance and I can't seem to get her to try anything else. She was a gymnast too and this was perfect for her and she even made the competition team. When I told her she then had to choose between gymnastics and ballet (b/c of time constraints) she chose ballet. To me her body is more like a gymnast and so many agree but she has already decided that she wants to be a professional ballerina. She is 10 years old and only 43 lbs. and about 44 inches tall. 5th grader but looks like a 1st grader...Were you this small then?

Housell, this is the Young Dancers' forum. Posts should be limited to the students themselves, Ms. Leigh, Mrs. Schneider, and me, with only rare "knock-knock" exceptions.

At any rate, worrying about height before full stature is attained is usually needless. The longer before, the more needless.

Sorry! I was new. Didn't know the rules. Trying to learn all I can to help my daughter. Her school is pressuring us...
