Guest lowedancestudioroxmysox5
Some one told me that the shorter dancers usually get the variations and solos because they want corp to look the same height... is that true? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 27, 2006 Administrators Report Share Posted March 27, 2006 No, it is not. There are corps dancers of varying sizes, within a range. The soloists are simply the better dancers for the roles. Exceptionally short or exceptionally tall dancers will not automatically get solos. They have to be the best dancers for that. In fact, the exceptionally short or tall will have a harder time getting into a company if they don't fit in the corps de ballet, unless they are such exceptional dancers that they are ready for solo work. Guest dancer522
Would you consider 5'6 1/2" tall for a ballet company? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 27, 2006 Administrators Report Share Posted March 27, 2006 No, not these days. It used to be considered tall, but I think not so much anymore. Quote Link to comment
PrettyonPointe45
I'm supposed to be about 5'7 and I've always worried a lot about my height. I know each company has their own idea of a dancer, but would most companies accept that tall of dancer as long as they were a good dancer? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 27, 2006 Administrators Report Share Posted March 27, 2006 Probably, but you never know. Might depend on what males they have and also what places are open in terms of what they need for that season. Quote Link to comment
FlexNPointe123
I think I am pretty much done growing, and I am about 5'2 3/4"......and my legs are very short within my body ratio.....will this most likely be an issue? Don't many places choose not to necessarily look past this? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 27, 2006 Administrators Report Share Posted March 27, 2006 Erica, it's really hard to know without seeing you, but body proportions do make a difference. However, there are always exceptions to everything. Quote Link to comment
dance4life56
I am only 5 feet, and I'm not suposed to grow more than another inch or so. I have had teachers tell me I have a well proportioned body for ballet, but I think that I have very short legs. If you are short, without legs that "go on for days" do you still have a good chance at joining a company? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 2, 2006 Administrators Report Share Posted April 2, 2006 Exceptionally short or tall dancers will need to be exceptional dancers to have a good chance of joining a company. However, there are a lot of exceptions out there dancing Quote Link to comment
