Recommended Posts

I receive periodic email newsletters from Dance USA. Here's some interesting information:

Did you know?

Dance/USA's estimate for the total number of dancers in companies in the United States with budgets of over $1 Million = 2,130

Companies with budgets over $6 million (15 Companies) = 645 dancers

Ballet companies with budgets between $1 million and $5.99 million (48 companies) (Extrapolated number is based on the average of nine companies surveyed by Dance/USA) = Extrapolated estimate: 1,215 dancers

Modern/Contemporary companies with budgets between $1 million and $5.99 million (18 companies) (Extrapolated number based on eight companies surveyed by Dance/USA) = Extrapolated estimate: 270 dancers

These figures do not include the following:

Part time dancers hired solely for specific pieces

"Second" or "apprentice" or "studio" companies. Note especially Taylor, Hubbard Street and Ailey.

Unpaid apprentices
