July Champagne Couch

I had a wonderful class, mostly en pointe, that lasted 3 hours. I really concentrated at the barre, and then danced my heart out in the center. I got too many "Good, Vanessa"'s to count. I also broke in a new left pointe, and shellacked my old pair (boy do they stink! woo- hoo). I think the heat helped immensely, as my muscles really miss it. Now if only my other new pair would arrive, I'd be set!

Oops -- Posted this in June CC before I realized what I was doing . . . sorry about duplication

Just for grins, I participated in the Level III class last night (I'm about a I 1/2; teacher only let me in cuz class is small and she knows I'm a technic fanatic and slow to try new stuff ). I was the oldest student by 30+ years! It was a real challenge to keep up with the barre, I stumbled through the adagio, and my allegro . . . well, let's euphemistically say I was marking :blushing: I felt like a complete idiot and vowed to myself never to do THAT again.

But after class, my teacher and the Pilates teacher (who had joined us later) ran up and hugged me! "You did a great job keeping up with those girls!" they cried. "Your barre work was so square! You hung in there in the allegro! Next year that'll be you dancing out there!" I was amazed and greatly encouraged. I love my teachers! :D

There's something about ballet (in my limited experience, anyhow) that leads to these things. On Thursday, my pirouettes - never very good - were really sloppy - i.e. usually landing two or three feet from where I started  and I felt pretty rotten about it. What did my teacher say? She stopped me on the way out to say my barre was really good today, stable and precise, and I was really making progress the last few weeks!

I love my teachers too!

I learned how to do pique turns tonight! And I only teetered when turning to the left! GO ME!
