Positive Body Image

I generally am fine about how I look, weight, height, proportions, everything. But every now and then I feel like I don't look good. Does anyone else ever feel this way? How can you keep a positive body image?

What are we talking about here? If you are generally satisfied with the way you look, that's fine. All of us occasionally come down with a case of the "foo". That's when you look at yourself in the mirror and say,"foo". One reason is that we all don't look great all the time. Subtle and not-so-subtle things are going on so that sometimes we actually don't look so hot sometimes. Partial remedy is to fix those things which are quickly fixable, like bad hair day, puffy face from allergies, and stuff like that. If you go through a continuing state of being dissatisfied with your body, that's called "somatic dysphoria", but if you are generally happy with the way things look, that's OK!

Dont get discouraged by your weight, just stay healthy.

I often think Im fat because I am but, thats why I joined a swim team so I can lose the weight quick, and I wont feel so bad about my self compared to others. I am petite and I am suppose to be tinny but, the fact that I am a child of a family of fat Italians on my dads side well you get the picture.

A positive body image can best be obtained by getting your body into the shape where it looks best, and learning how to maintain that, through dance and basic nutrition. This may take some counseling for some people, as basic nutrition means learning to eat the right foods in the right quantity for your body structure. Diets do not usually work, as when you stop them, the weight returns. One needs to change their nutritional habits into a lifestyle that works for them. This may take some time to accomplish, but will be well worth it in the end, as you will be healthy and have a positive body image. :D

This is not something that teens can usually do alone. They need help from qualified professionals, and support from their family.

in my family "big boned frames" are genetic. i was blessed with a fairly small frame. my brother and parents weren't so lucky. but it's perfectly ok in my book to try and work on what needs to be worked on through exercise and healthy diet! : )
