lds_dancing_princess
I haven't had a dance class in almost 4 months. I was only supposed to have a month off, but my Grandmother who raised me went into the hospital in late June, and she recently passed away. I spent almost every day at the hospital with her before her death. I have had a very hard time dealing with it emontionally, and I havent been able to dance. However, My dance classes begin in 3 weeks, adn I need to get myself back into shape. I don't have acess to a studio, so what can I do to get myslf back into shape? I have been doing Pilates every day, and I've been jogging 1-3 miles every other day. Should I give myself a Barre class? Any advice would be appriciated!! Thank you so much!! Link to comment
Mel Johnson
That sounds like plenty to me. When you're under the stress of losing someone to whom you are close, it can have a very detrimental effect on your ability to dance. Please know that we are here for you if you need to vent. Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 2, 2006 Administrators Report Share Posted August 2, 2006 Yes, I would suggest giving yourself a barre every day for these weeks leading up to classes starting. Link to comment

lbella
Ms. Leigh or Mr. Johnson, Do you have any ideas on how to keep your stanima up? I know running is bad for dancers (or so I've heard...builds the wrong muscles). I was wondering what I can do during this very long break to not lose my stanima. Thanks! Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Select for yourself a barre. Do it until you know it completely, then do it nonstop every day. That means no pauses between each element, except to finish. Link to comment
