Siegelife
I am wondering, for an adult who is not the average ballet weight any longer.....would a large in ballet tights be ok or is the range only for the ballerinas? I guess what I'm asking is would a larger adult have to not wear ballet tights, but go to an alternative store instead? Quote Link to comment
koshka
The packages have those height/weight grids, just like on pantyhose. When in doubt, go for a larger size. :-) Quote Link to comment
lampwick
I wear a large in most brands of ballet tights (115 pounds, 5'6"). Some of my leotards are marked "large" as well. They size the stuff pretty small. Quote Link to comment
ashatNYU
I know some companies, like Danskin in particular, sell plus sized tights. Here is a link. HTH! Quote Link to comment
ruby
I'm the same size as Lampwick, plus maybe 5 pounds, and always buy a large in Capezio Hold and Stretch, it that's any help. Quote Link to comment

vicarious
I was very disappointed when I got my gear in the mail. Large in anything ballet didn't come close. I ended up getting black "tights" in queen size from Walmart, dying my plus size swim suit black and made a skirt. I think I looked rediculous. If I ever go back to class I'll wear yoga pants and a t-shirt. Quote Link to comment
Treefrog
I've liked the Danskin tights. In my experience, the plus sizes (1X, 2X, etc) are sized pretty close to everyday wear. They fit nicely, and wear very well. As for leos, I wear the Capezio cap sleeve leo in a plus size. I got mine at www.dancefactoryoutlet.com for something like $10. Great deal! Quote Link to comment
olddude
Don't know if this helps, but maybe ... I have some M. Stevens unisex tights, milliskin, size XL, that fit me pretty well. I'm a guy, 6'1" and 183 pounds. Quote Link to comment
citibob
"Large" is not the biggest things come. You can get some kinds of tights in XXL --- which isn't even necessarily that big. But worth a try. Leotards should come in at least XL. And men's dancewear goes even bigger... Quote Link to comment

If I ever go back to class I'll wear yoga pants and a t-shirt. Don't get down on the size thing. I am in 2X or 3X tights from Danskin and they fit better if I cut the feet and pull them up a bit. I am a Tall and an XL or size 18. My XL leotards are feeling too tight after some recent weight gain and the plus ones just don't fit my length. I hate the very covered up plus styles too. I am always hot in class. I wish they made a nice adjustable strap camisole.... I am finding bathing suits in 18Tall that look pretty much like leotards and some have skirts attached. They generally work but you have to watch out for some that are constructed very heavily. I haven't considered dyeing anything. I would be afraid of sweating and having my body turn the color of the dye.... I didn't know walMart had plut tights or any tights for that matter. Good luck. Laschwen Quote Link to comment
Guest marathongirl
And the large size varies by brand - I am on a quest to find my "perfect" tights (that fit right, no bulges, right color for my shoes) and am finding alot of variation in the what are the large, C/D, C, or D sizes. I find that they do fit smaller than pantyhose b/c I usually wear a C in panty hose (one down from what the package says b/c if I wore according to the package I'd be swimming in them). Sometimes in tights I need the D. Capezios are the tightest/smallest for me so far, then blochs, the grishkos are shorter. Danskin and NYCB danskin and gaynor miden seem pretty okay. So I'd try the tights, or the Danskin plus size tights. Good luck. Quote Link to comment
WendyMichelle
Since we are on the tights subject......have any of you tried the Capezio 1816? Those are the super soft convertible tights. However, the sizing doesn't seem right to me either. Are there any other brands that have something similar to the 1816? Quote Link to comment

However, the sizing doesn't seem right to me either. Are there any other brands that have something similar to the 1816? I had those. They seemed pretty short and small on me, and I'm 5'1! I like the Danskin NYCB tights, with or without seams. The numbers are 602 and 603 according to Discount Dance. Back on topic- I've liked most of Danskin's dancewear that I've tried. Maybe getting the plus tights in Theatrical Pink would be a good choice? Capezio sells their Stretch and Hold in plus sizes. You can find them on discountdance.com, too. Be sure to look at the size chart. I've never been able to quite get their sizing. I also really, really like the Gaynor Mindens which are super comfy, but they seem to run really easily. Gaynor Mindens just come in Small, Medium and Tall by height. I think they have a lot of give, so maybe those would be worth a try, too? Quote Link to comment
Laschwen
Anyone remember "one Size Fits All" pantyhose? I can hear the chorus of "All What?" coming from around the world any minute. I think there used to be one size fits all tights too???? It seems you really have to use the trial and error method for tights the same as most pantyhose. For pantyhose I used to look at the charts, go a size up for my 2 extra inches of height not listed in the chart, and then make sure I got a control top to make sure they would stay up. It worked for years. Tights I never had much choice on, but the leotard kept them from falling down if I wore a wider size than I needed. I guess it still does. Even in my XL and XXL days of Danskin or Capezio, there were few colors to choose from. Theatrical Pink was it if I wanted pink at all. I never dreamed I could match the shoes and tights. I am just happy they have any kind of Pink in the Danskin Plus I need now. Wearing all black depresses me after a while. Laschwen Quote Link to comment
