Mel Johnson
The elastic is sewn on so that it crosses the transitional area between the instep and the ankle. Take the shoe, fold the heel seam in until the inside of the heel touches the insole of the shoe. Sew the elastic on where the folds thus produced in the sides of the shoe end. Link to comment
jazzyme
You can search on this forum. Try "+slippers +elastic". Once you figure out how to position them, I recommend safety-pinning the elastic in place before you sew them, and then slipping a shoe on just to check the placement. Also, elastic can be tough to sew by hand - local shoe repair stores will gladly do it for you, but make sure the people know exactly where you want them! DanceMom
I have found over the years of sewing my daughter's shoes - use dental floss for the thread. It is so much easier to sew with, doesn't break and if you get the mint kind, helps with the aroma of the dance bag! Link to comment

Claude_Catastrophique
DanceMom: This is a lovely idea! I have to try this the next time I have to sew elastics on. I always have the problem with breaking. Link to comment
