Hi,

My name is Amelia, I am 16 yrs old and I was wondering- is it possible for someone from the US to get Russian training in the Vaganova ballet academy or Bolshoi ballet school but still be a minor and have your parents living in the US. How does this work? Please help! I want VAGANOVA training!! :)

If you follow this link to Vaganova Academy, it explains in English the entrance procedures for foreign students. It is very clear that a foreign student must be between the ages of 18-20. The reasons for this rule are many. It does take great maturity to live in a foreign country without a family, learn a new language, live in a dormitory that does not provide more than shelter, running water, warmth and safety. Having lived in the dorms at VA, while it is clean and adequate in comfort, it is not a place for younger students. There are no dormitory supervisors (as we know them in the US), but there are very nice babushkas who sit at the front desk monitoring who comes in and out.

Vaganova Academy is a fabulous school and what an experience to enhance a future. Trust that the school has made the decision not to take minor foreign students based upon experience.

If you are interested in a residency program please take a look at our Residency forum here at BT4D. http://dancers.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=147
