appleblossom
This was one of my favourite threads and considering we are halfway through August with no Champagne Couch I wanted to bring it back... hope noone minds. (also for slightly selfish reasons cos i learnt to do chaine turns on pointe tonight... they were a little wobbly in places but felt great to do) Quote Link to comment
missvjc420
I keep feeling better placement wise, and had my first class with my old company director in 6 years and was told that I had improved- and I was a professional then! I do think that age and experience have a lot to do with it. I've been through much since then, and it colors my dancing. Quote Link to comment
Striving for Grace
I was fiddling around yesterday (intensive's all over, so I got bored) and I had a ballet epiphany! I could never get my developpes past 90 (except a few very good days where I had 120 to the side) in any direction, and suddenly I figured out how to place my weight and lift from beneath the leg in order to get a much much higher extension! I'm shocked that it wasn't some fluke... it's still working... the knee starts out higher and the lower leg follows! Yippee! Quote Link to comment
Guest pink tights
Summer classes w/ the college gals (most were well under 30 + me!) ended a couple weeks ago. I consider this a major accomplishment....getting thru the summer.... Quote Link to comment
Kate B
Last night I was horrified at the thought of a combination - it involved pirouettes en dehors and en dedans, lame ducks and chainees, but after a moment of hiding behind a door frame and thinking I might sit it out I decided just to go for it. I don't think I looked that great, but I did manage to execute the steps on the right - and get this - on the left! For the rest of the class I tried all the combinations and get most of them OK but my brain totally didn't work on the left when it came to the petit allegro. But I was so pleased I'd got over my fear of trying the steps I didn't think I was capable of. Next time I hope I don't even consider sitting anything out. It's so much more fun having a go. ashatNYU
I'm at ADC right now and yesterday in pirouttes class I did a pirouette from one leg! We did develope a la seconde on releve, plie on one leg, en dedans pirouette. I didn't even know it was possible, but I did it! Quote Link to comment
dancingjet
I made it back to class again this week - that's good enough for me! Quote Link to comment
Guest tutuonmymind
I just started dancing again earlier this year. I promised myself that if I got the opportunity to perform, I would. Well we had auditions for our Nutcracker production. I went. I will find out the part assignment later. They still have some more casting to do. It won't be anything flashy. My technique is not that good anymore. It was fun. I will enjoy participating whatever the part may be. Quote Link to comment
AmyKL
Champagne moment for August. I had my first advanced class that I was fearing. Because you know, well... I'm not "advanced". It wasn't great. But it wasn't bad. So that's an accomplishment. I got a lot of really useful corrections. There are only 4 people in the class right now. There's two other girls normally, but I don't think they could make it to this class. So at the end, the teacher said as I was leaving, "It's just great that you're not to intimidated to try anything!" and said that I hung in there pretty well for the first time. That felt good. Especially since the other people in the class have been dancing for ages. I'm down to 2 classes a week, but the same person teaches them and she's wonderful. Quote Link to comment

When you did your pirouette from developpe seconde did you leave your leg out there, or bring it in to retire? just curious. cos it sounds speccy! Quote Link to comment
ami1436
Okay this is random and not ballet related but they are filming a new Bollywood movie in Oxford (the Indian version of Love Actually). Today they were filming at my college! And I stayed and watched them dance and got loads of pics of two of the biggest Bollywood stars. I can't stop smiling. I'm so random. Quote Link to comment
appleblossom
One of those bollywood actors is HOT. OOOh poor a glass for a girl from my class has just been accepted to the Australia Ballet School. WHOO HOOO!!! Quote Link to comment
ami1436
I got pics of Salman Khan (I'm not a huge fan, but some are) and Priyanka Chopra, a former Miss World The film is Salaam-e-Ishq - Saluting Love. When it comes out - the dance scene under the bridge. That's my college! And - I was there watching it being filmed! There's a few of the Bollywood bros that I drool over, but Salman is not one of them. Anyways!!!!! For what it's worth, my turns are becoming more consistent. Including chaines. But I'm still haveing trouble with super quick turns. Anyways. Quote Link to comment

It's odd where you can find momentum to get around. Well, I didn't find TOO much momentum but it was interesting to figure out! Quote Link to comment
