Men & the Adage

So.......on stage, women get to show off all of their wonderful flexibily and beautiful backs in adagio movements much, much more than we males ever will. (Not that I'm jealous, we do get to jump and turn till our hearts contented) But in class we all do the same exercises.

I, personnally, love the adage because it means two things 1) the barre is done &2) I think it's a great time to show our strength and carriage and nobility.

What are your favorite moments in the adagio?

Mine(not limited to)

A panche in plie. I love feeling the strength in the supporting upper thigh.

An arabesque in third(Russian)- the opposition in the back

A develope in Ecarte derriere(Russian) looking down over the hand. I love to trying to crank that hip to achieve maximum turnout.(Not that it always works all that well but I still love it)

Anything in demi-pointe! :P

And a temp lie to croise derriere tendu a terre with arms en bas. Such a noble movement for a man.

Yours?

I like to show off my wonderful flexibility and beautiful back in adagio. I like the smooth control, the continuous movement, the long extensions. And I'll do it on-stage just as soon as I have (or make) a reason to.

2LeftFeet - that's a cute reply for a painkiller after class :)

I find Cecchetti syllabus has many beautiful poses for both men and women. Done slowly as in adagio, the port de bras 2nd set in advanced 1 is gorgeous to look at especially in section 3. A bonus if you are one of those flexible ones.

I second that. The Cecchetti syllabus has a beautiful adage section (though I am doing intermediate, starting advanced 1 in a couple of weeks)
