Teacher uses weird music during class

At my summer intensive one of our modern teachers did a combination across the floor that was in 5/4 with no real melody (the accompanist was sort of improvising). It was challenging at first (I'm a classical type of person and the music was irregular and atonal) but it was fun and really changed how I listened to the music. It also challenged me to move freely even when the counts and choreography were unfamiliar to me. :innocent:

We almost always use classic piano. But on random days a teacher will pull out classic rock, or hip hop! It's a nice change, but I usually prefer piano, or music from a ballet (with violin, ect.)
